POWER RANKINGS

Breaking down the SEC

-

1. LSU:

The Joe Burrow Machine keeps on rolling. LSU can probably withstand one loss and still make the College Football Playoff at this point.

2. Georgia:

The throwback team of 2019. Jake Fromm is somewhere in that middle ground between Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron (a compliment). Two wins from glory.

3. Alabama:

Mac Jones and Bo Nix have the fewest combined letters in their names (13) than any QB matchup since the Iron Bowl was renewed in 1948. Alphabet facts you need to know.

4. Florida:

Dan Mullen hasn’t gotten the Gators to Atlanta yet but another win over FSU and a potential New Year’s Day bowl has him moving closer and closer.

5. Auburn:

Is there any scenario that Auburn likes better than playing at JordanHare with a chance to spoil something for Alabama?

6. Texas A&M:

The accountant’s dream team. Beat who you should. Lose to the rest. No surprises and the modest profit of 7-5.

7. Tennessee:

Ed Orgeron will be SEC Coach of the Year but Jeremy Pruitt deserves a hat tip for the Tennessee turnaround.

8. Kentucky:

A season-ending win over Louisville probably means the difference in a drab year and a pretty decent one for the Wildcats.

9. Ole Miss:

Thanksgiving means turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce and, for dessert, some John Rhys Plumlee.

10. Mississippi State:

Everyone will be eligible for the Egg Bowl which may be good for MSU and may not be good enough unless some guys from last year’s team come back, too.

11. South Carolina:

Can a team really have wins over Georgia and Clemson and losses to North Carolina and Appalachian State? The Gamecocks are going to test the hypothesis.

12. Missouri:

It’s Missouri vs. Arkansas in the Border War that no one wants to win. Mizzou can gain bowl eligibility with a win and may not want that either.

13. Vanderbilt:

Another losing season goes in the books and it’s hard to see where the Commodores are making progress.

14. Arkansas:

The Razorbacks did not embarrass themselves against LSU and that, by the most modest of standards, is progress.
