BELLA VISTA — Robert James McIntire, 89, of Bella Vista passed away Nov. 18, 2019. He was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Tulsa, Okla., to the late James Page and Celia Fern Pray McIntire.

Bob served with the Army’s 2nd Division in Alaska. He was a member of the Highland Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He was an active member of several Masonic organizati­ons and served as Rajah of the Neosho Shrine. After retiring from sales, purchasing, quality control and engineerin­g, he and Jimmee traveled extensivel­y in their motorhome but always came back to retirement in Bella Vista.

Bob was a good man who was proud of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janice Lynn Frazier and sisters Donna Fern Foley and Beverly Louise Cameron.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna Faith “Jimmee” McIntire; children Robert James McIntire Jr. and wife Kathleen, DeAnne Faith Witherspoo­n O.D. and husband David, John Page McIntire and wife Jilie and Jennifer Elaine Tilley and husband Phillip; eight grandchild­ren and five great-grandchild­ren.

A memorial service will be held in January 2020.

BELLA VISTA — Paula Jeanette Walker, age 93, passed away, Nov, 9, 2019, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e, Ark. She was born April 9, 1926, in Larned, Kan., the daughter of Paul and Jenny Barstow.

She was a homemaker, bank teller and grew up on a farm in Macksville, Kan.

Paula and her husband Vernon, who preceded her in death in November 2014, moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1975. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista.

Paula is survived by sons Doug and Mark, who live in Kansas City and Wichita, Kan., respective­ly, and Hal of Bella Vista; brothers Henry F. Barstow and Marlan D. Barstow; grandchild­ren Adam, Alex, Ericka and Jordan and two great-grandchild­ren.

BENTONVILL­E — Norma Jean Kaiser, 76, of Bentonvill­e, Ark., passed away Nov. 25, 2019, in Springdale, Arks. She was born May 19, 1943, in Bentonvill­e, Ark., the daughter of late Virgil Hutcheson and Norma Lee Huffmaster Townzen and step-daughter of Earnie Townzen.

She worked as a security guard for Tyson Food and a former clerk at an convenienc­e store.

She was preceded in death by daughter Tammy Binam and grandson Nick Kaiser.

She is survived by son Kevin Kaiser of Bentonvill­e; sister Pat (Gary) Phillips; three grandchild­ren and four great-grandchild­ren.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Jean Ann “Jan” (Northcutt) Vawter, called Granjan by all, passed away peacefully Nov. 28, 2019, surrounded by family in Fayettevil­le. She was born Oct. 12, 1943, in Fayettevil­le to Dr. Jasper and Mrs. Imogene (Coger) Northcutt of Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and aunt Dr. Leslie Irene Coger of Springfiel­d Mo.

She is survived by husband Jim Vawter of Fayettevil­le; son James Vawter and daughter-in-law Sofia and grandchild­ren Matthew and Gigi of Fayettevil­le; daughter Amanda Fick and son-in-law Kevin and grandchild­ren Tanner, Hayden and Morgan of Springfiel­d, Mo.; sister Nancy Eslick of Fayettevil­le; sisterin-law Elizabeth Fulton of Fayettevil­le; and many other dear family members, friends and pets.

Jan was a graduate of Greenwood High School (1961) in Springfiel­d, Mo. She graduated with bachelor of arts in oral interpreta­tion from Southwest Missouri State (1965) and masters of arts in oral interpreta­tion from University of Illinois at Champagne (1967).

Jan and Jim were married Nov. 29, 1969, in Huntsville. Their 50-year marriage is notable not just for its duration, but for the depth of its dedication and enjoyment. Before her retirement in 1999, Jan taught at several educationa­l institutio­ns including the University of Arkansas and Ramay Junior High in Fayettevil­le.

In the years since, she and Jim traveled the world, enjoyed winters in Florida and spent time with their children and five grandchild­ren. Jan was an avid reader, theater-goer and cooked for many. Her hot rolls were the star of every meal, and her table was open to all.

A private service will be held for immediate family members at Jan’s request.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Kelly R. Goodman, 56, of Fayettevil­le died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, in Springdale. She was born Aug. 24, 1963, in Tulare, Calif., the daughter of John Ketcher and Patricia Ridenhower.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel Goodman in 2019, a brother and a sister.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Mary Louise Hinkle, 99, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed away Friday, Nov.r 29, 2019. She was born April 27, 1920, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Garland and Allie (MacKenzie) Lawson.

She was a homemaker and in her later years was employed with the Fayettevil­le School District Food Service until her retirement. She was a member of Center Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by husband Mack Hinkle, whom she married Oct. 23, 1937, her parents, sister Wylma Phillips, and son-in-law J. Pat Brooks.

She is survived by daughters Saundra Brooks and Barbara Robertson and husband Rick, both of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; grandchild­ren Glenda Audrain, James Brooks and wife Ellen and Doug Brooks and wife Lonnia; six great-grandchild­ren; and two great-great-grandchild­ren.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Joyce Elizabeth Kerr (Sis), 87, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019. She was born April 26, 1932, in Mountain Home, Texas, to Seabird and Lena Helen Henderson.

She was preceded in death by brothers Bill, Buddy (Joyce’s twin) and Mackie Wayne.

Joyce graduated from Tivy

High School in Kerrville, Texas, in 1950. She retired from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in 1994. She was a loving mother and grandmothe­r. Joyce enjoyed family reunions, spending time with her grandchild­ren, cooking, and working with plants (she had the Henderson green thumb).

Joyce is survived by son John Brinckerho­ff Kerr III and Grace Rusk Kerr of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; sister Jennie Bly of Austin, Texas; and grandsons Ross and Ryan of Fayettevil­le, Ark., and Gainesvill­e, Fla., respective­ly. FORT SMITH — Hugh Atwood, 94, died Nov. 30, 2019, in Fort Smith.

He was a veteran of World War II and retired in 1978 from Southweste­rn Bell Telephone after 36 years of service. Following his retirement, he became active in banking and served on the board of Midsouth Bank in Jonesboro. His civic activities included past president on many boards — the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Downtown Lions Club, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He served on the boards of John T. Gray School, Jonesboro Church Health Center, Jonesboro Interfaith Food Center, and Arkansas Seniors Golf Associatio­n.

Hugh was a member of the Craighead County Quorum Court for 14 years and served as their member of the Jonesboro Industrial Committee.

A former teacher and member of the Mrs. Harry Hill Sunday School Class, he held most major governing offices of the First United Methodist Church and was a past chairman of its Administra­tive Board and Trustee Committee.

He was preceded in death by children Janie and Allen Atwood.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jane Cotton Atwood; daughter Susan McFerran and husband Mike of Fort Smith; grandchild­ren Allen McFerran and wife Malarie, Jane Jackson and husband Steve and Ann McFerran; great-grandchild­ren Emerson, Maggie Jane and Hayes McFerran; nephews Jim Dunn and wife Suzie and Don Dunn and wife Cathy; and wonderful caregivers Tarra Boecher, Ashlyn Minor and Laura Ledbeter.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, in Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Service and cremation are entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.

FORT SMITH — Sarah Jeanne Rhodes, 87, of Fort Smith, beloved wife of Richard Rhodes, entered eternal life Nov. 29, 2019, surrounded by her family. Sarah was born in Bristow, Okla., to Nancy and

Clarence Savage in 1932.

She attended Ouachita Baptist University, before graduating from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of science degree in 1952. She also earned a master of education degree from the University of Arkansas in 1972.

Sarah taught at Howe (Okla.) High School, Greenwood High School, and Carnall Elementary School, before retiring in 1991 after almost 30 years of service. Sarah was a master teacher whose integrity, creativity and compassion enriched the lives her students. Sarah not only taught little children how to read, she showed them how a love of learning could change their lives. Former students often reached out to let her know how much she had meant to them and how she had set them on a better path.

Sarah was an accomplish­ed musician and served as the pianist at Immanuel Baptist Church in Fort Smith during the 1970s. Sarah and Richard made it a priority to give their children a house full of musical instrument­s, a gift that has inspired a lifetime of joy for Sam, Tim and Beth. Sarah loved her garden and spent many happy hours working in it, joined by the stray cat who adopted her.

Sarah, a truly gentle soul and humble servant of Christ, was grateful for the daily blessings of her life and wanted to share those gifts with others. She was a devoted supporter of the Children’s Emergency Shelter and the Salvation Army.

Sarah loved her family dearly and was beloved by her husband, children, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. Richard thought Sarah was the sweetest and loveliest woman he had ever met and, even after 66 years together, he made a point of telling her that every day.

Sarah’s family thanks the doctors, nurses and technician­s at St. Edwards Mercy Medical Center and Heart of Hospice, Doctors Daniel Mackey and Kurt Mehl, friend and caregiver Susan Carnett; and Sarah’s daughter-in-law, Dr. Nadine Alex for their loving care.

Sarah is survived by Richard, her husband of 65 years, son Sam (wife Alice, children Stephanie Grimm, Melissa Rhodes Carter and Samuel, and grandchild­ren Elsa, Gemma and Leo Carter) son Tim (wife Nadine and children Kaitlin and Haley Rhodes) and daughter Beth. Sarah is reunited with infant son Kelly, brother C.B. Savage and sister Margaret Hamilton.

Visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home at noon Thursday, Dec. 5, with the service following at 1 p.m. Pastor Kevin Thompson of Community Bible Church in Fort Smith will officiate.

Pallbearer­s will be Stephen Carter, Doug Cooke, Craig Floro, Doug Grimm, Shannon Smedley and Aaron Windsor. Honorary pallballer­s will be Kevin Bowen, Deborah Yeager Clark, Allyn Donaubauer, Kevin Bowen, and Nathaniel Kendall.

ROGERS — William M. Gray Jr., age 85, of Rogers, Ark., passed from this life Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019. He was born Feb. 7, 1934, in Altus, Ark., a son of the late William M. Gray Sr, and Joyce Hood Gray.

William was retired from the Navy as a stationary engineer. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

His wife, Martha Bell Sidel Gray, also preceded him in death.

ROGERS — Hannah Paige Porter of Rogers passed away Nov. 23, 2019. She was born Feb. 3, 1987, in Little Rock to Fred and Betty Porter.

Hannah was a daughter, sister, grandchild, niece, aunt and friend to so many. She was an animal lover, passion seeker, human rights supporter, philosophe­r, wicked smart and beyond big hearted. She had the kind of heart who would take her shirt off for another in the pouring freezing rain if it would offer comfort to someone in need.

She was the kind of person that felt and cared so deeply about others. She was the kind of person who softened the presence of strangers. Actually, she didn’t know a stranger. Hannah was a giver. She was the ultimate friend, giving her whole self even in times when she herself didn’t know how to go on.

In all her suffering, she had grit. She shared her struggles in hopes to bring awareness to others suffering. She was not ashamed. We are so proud of our Hannah. Her bright smile, honest words and caring soul will forever live in our memory.

ROGERS — Marvin Dale Wright, 70, passed away Nov. 27, 2019, in Bentonvill­e. He was born Jan. 15, 1949, in Beaver, Okla., to the late David E. and Edna L. (Arnold) Wright.

He was the loving husband of Nancy (Pruitt) Wright for 46 years. Marvin served in the Army from 1969-1975. He was member of the Old Guard at Fort Myer, Va. He worked 28 years for Crane Company and 13 years at Kennametal, both in Rogers.

After retiring in 2014, he was able to spend more time enjoying the things he loved, like spending time with his family and especially playing with his granddaugh­ters and going to their activities.

Marvin was also an avid sports fan, but his favorites were football and baseball. He didn’t mind watching the games on TV, but attending the games was always a highlight.

He is survived by his wife of Rogers; daughters Jennifer Hinterthue­r (Scott) and Kimberly Bracht (fiance Rodney Johns), both of Bentonvill­e; brothers Larry P. Wright and Linda of Bentonvill­e and Robert A. Wright and Pat of Utah; four grandchild­ren Chloe and Audrey Bracht and Hannah and Abigail Hinterthue­r; aunt Evelyn Clark; six nieces; one nephew, and numerous cousins.

A visitation will be Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home. His funeral will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Little Flock Cemetery.

SILOAM SPRINGS — Connie Brown of Siloam Springs, Ark. died Nov. 26, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center, Rogers, Ark. She was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Beaver County, Okla., to Ira Flock and Mary Louise Leeper Flock.

On Nov. 12, 1939, Connie married Woodrow Brown.

Connie lived the first half of her life in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandle areas until 1967. Connie graduated from Darrouzett, Texas, High School in 1939. Connie learned to cook feeding farm hands in the area. When she cooked, there was always an abundance of good, filling country food ending with some of the best pies ever.

The family owned and operated a grocery store in Darrouzett for several years. She belonged to the United Methodist Church and Eastern Star and was a Worthy Matron.

The last half of her life was spent on cattle farms in McDonald County, Mo., and near Siloam Springs, Arks. Finally, she lived the last few years at Innisfree Retirement Center in Rogers, Ark. At each location she quickly found friends, bridge partners as well as church homes.

In Siloam Springs she often enjoyed Travel Masters trips and Branson outings with friends. Her Sunday school class at the Siloam Springs First United Methodist Church was the highlight of her week. Her great-grandson Sullivan brought great joy in her last two years. She was always pleased to share pictures and looked forward to his visits.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 73 years, Woodrow in 2013, brother and sisterin-law Roland and Lynette Flock.

Survivors include son Teddy Brown and wife Norma of Siloam Springs, Ark.; grandchild­ren Teddi Gail Blagg and husband Donnie of Fayettevil­le, Ark., Craig Brown and wife Micca of Siloam Springs, Ark.; great-grandson Sullivan Max Brown; along with many nieces and nephews.

SPRINGDALE — Glen Macklin Rogers, age 98, of Springdale died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, in Springdale, Ark. He was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Kingston, Ark., to Andrew Jefferson (Jeff) and Lillie Bee McFerrin Rodgers.

Mack was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lorena Walker Rogers, son Darrel Rogers, daughter Kathy Rogers, and daughterin-law Linda Rogers.

Mack is survived by his wife of 24 years, Virginia Ames Rogers; grandchild­ren Diana Rogers, Janet Huneycutt Lightner, Darren Rogers, Tim Rogers and their spouses. He is survived by many great and great-great-grandchild­ren as well.

Mack was a veteran of the Air Force, serving his country during World War II, and served as mayor of Lowell, Ark., for nine years.

He loved his family, and liked nothing better than to spin a good story – and he was very good at it.

CASSVILLE, Mo. — Rodney Allen Pianalto, 59, of Cassville, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born April 18, 1960, in Springdale and loved his work with Reliable Poultry where he was a salesman.

Rodney enjoyed camping and trout fishing, telling jokes and making people laugh. Above all he was devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Margie (Yeager) Pianalto; children Nicholas Pianalto and daughter-in-law Meaghan of Houston, Texas, and Danielle Pianalto of Springdale; parents Richard and Antoinette Pianalto of Springdale; brothers Rick Pianalto and wife Linda, Joey Pianalto and wife Kerri, all of Tontitown; sister Alison Washkowiak and husband Mike, also of Tontitown; and mother-in-law Sonja “Sunny” Yeager of Fayettevil­le.

He was preceded in death by grandparen­ts Adolph and Theresa Zulpo and Silvio and Emelia Pianalto; infant siblings Daniel and Gina; and father-in-law Leonard “Red” Yeager.

The family would like to take this opportunit­y to thank the physicians and staff at Mercy Health System and Circle of Life Hospice for the loving and compassion­ate care provided to Rodney and his family during his extended illness.
