Dream a little dream

Those brought here as children have dreams come true

“Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!”

— President Trump, in a 2017 tweet

Yes, we know the president compared the recent decisions coming from the U.S. Supreme Court to shotgun blasts to the face. He tweets his feelings on the fly. And after the nation’s top court ruled in favor of the DACA kids this past week, he might have decided it was a loss for him, since his administration argued the other side.

But the president may change his mind tomorrow. He’s tweeted pro-DACA things before. The pertinent question is whether the court did the right thing. And the answer is a resounding yes.

The court ruled, 5 to 4, that the administration was wrong to attempt a dismantling of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Many call these young people Dreamers. As in those pursuing the American Dream.

For years, both Republicans and Democrats have tried to get these young people, who were brought to this country as even younger people, protections against deportation. Now the courts have spoken, and it didn’t take years, as some of us thought.

Speaking of past thoughts, thank goodness for the archives. We found the following editorial from May of last year, and it holds true today. We’d like to reprint it below, because it’s still good. We may even keep it in type.

For now and into the foreseeable future, the Dreamers can keep dreaming. They won’t have to go to a foreign land after all.

Thanks to the Roberts court. Not to mention Mr. Justice Roberts himself.
