MOUNT VERNON —A Central Arkansas man who faced several charges after a fatal dog attack in May was charged Friday with negligent homicide, court records show.

Trey Edgar Wyatt, 26, is charged with negligent homicide, tampering with physical evidence, and multiple drug and firearm offenses in the May 28 death of 9-year-old Robbie Taylor in Mount Vernon.

The Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office said in May the boy’s mother said her son went to get the mail outside his home.

His mother searched for him after he didn’t return in a reasonable amount of time, an arrest affidavit states. Authorities arrived to assist in the search shortly after 9:15 a.m., according to the affidavit.

The boy was found around 9:30 a.m., authorities said.

Documents state the boy was found bleeding and not breathing. He reportedly suffered severe trauma on his head and neck.

A child witness said she saw dogs head across a pasture into a neighbor’s property at 18 Chambers Lane. Authorities met with the property owner, who allowed law enforcement officials to enter the home. Inside, investigators said they noticed several spots of what appeared to be blood, according to documents.

Police spoke with Wyatt, the property owner’s boyfriend, about an hour after arriving at the address. Both were interviewed, documents state.

The home at 18 Chambers Lane was searched. Investigators found suspected methamphetamine and other paraphernalia, the affidavit states, as well as two firearms.

Investigators also collected blood evidence. They noted it appeared that someone had tried to clean areas where the suspected blood was found.
