■ Brent Blankley, the police chief of Tuscaloosa, Ala., said officers have organized a benefit motorcycle ride to help with medical bills for fellow officer Justin Taylor, who suffered serious injuries when his motorcycle crashed into a car that pulled into his path.

■ Debra Blackwell, circuit judge in Adams County, Miss., said jury trials for the county will resume and will be moved to the Natchez City Auditorium, allowing ample room for jurors, courtroom staff members and spectators to socially distance.

■ Randall Collins, a bouncer at a bar on St. Simons Island, Ga., was charged with aggravated battery after a bar patron was hospitaliz­ed with a brain injury suffered during a fight that broke out at closing time, according to a police report.

■ Jerry Burns, 66, of Manchester, Iowa, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole in the 1979 murder of an 18-yearold woman in Cedar Rapids, having been arrested after investigat­ors matched Burns’ DNA to evidence found at the crime scene, according to prosecutor­s.

■ Isaac Levy, the owner of Yvel jewelry company in Motza, Israel, said the company is working on a $1.5 million protective mask made of 18-karat white gold, decorated with 3,600 white and black diamonds and fitted with N99 filters at the request of a Chinese businessma­n living in the United States.

■ Grant Bissell, a spokesman for the Jefferson County, Mo., sheriff’s office, said deputies and animal control officials working to recapture two chimpanzee­s that escaped from a sanctuary near Festus have experience wrangling the chimps after one escaped a few weeks ago.

■ Derek Harris, a Louisiana man who has served nine years of a life sentence without parole over a $30 marijuana sale under the state’s habitual offender law, will be released after prosecutor­s agreed that Harris received ineffectiv­e assistance from his counsel at the time of the sentencing, defense attorneys said.

■ J.D. Carter, a sergeant with the Jones County, Miss., sheriff’s office, said the agency is pursuing all leads on a series of arson fires at three buildings in an unincorpor­ated area of the county, and the state’s fire marshal has offered a $5,000 reward for informatio­n.

■ Rod Mauldin, an officer with the Birmingham, Ala., police, said one person was killed and five others, including an off-duty Birmingham officer, were injured in a shooting at a motorcycle club.
