FAYETTEVIL­LE — Bar bara Hapgood (née Gott)

died after a decades-long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease at home on Aug. 8, 2020, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. at the age of 83. Barbara is survived by her husband, Thomas Layley Hapgood; children, Lynda Tillman (husband Anthony) of Queen Creek, Ariz., Kristi Daynes (husband Andy) of Hereford, Ariz., and Thomas Hapgood Jr. (wife Adriane), of Fayettevil­le, Ark. She leaves behind 12 grandchild­ren and four great-grandchild­ren, along with nephew Christophe­r Graci of Springfiel­d, Pa., and Sue Mearkle of Wilmington, Del.

She is preceded in death by her little sister, Betty Jeanne George and her parents Earl Andrew Gott and Elizabeth Findley Millward Gott.

Barbara was born on May 7, 1937, in Philadelph­ia, Pa., to parents Earl and Betty. She graduated from Landsdowne Aldan High School in June 1955 and earned a teaching degree at Millersvil­le State Teachers College, Pa., in 1959. She married Thomas Layley Hapgood on Oct. 8, 1960, whom she when she was 14 years old at Idle Hour Tennis Club in Drexel Hill, PA.

Over eight years, the couple welcomed three children into their home, with Lynda in 1961, Kristi in 1964 and Tom in 1970.

Barbara was an accomplish­ed pianist and a ranked tennis player and high school tennis coach. She was a graceful and kind individual who said only nice words about people. She loved tennis and television and was passionate about her husband and family, and her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many volunteer positions within the church.

A viewing was held at San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home on Aug. 15, 2020, with a family celebratio­n of life gathering following.

The entire family give eternal thanks to Barbara’s husband Thom who worked tirelessly as her caregiver for many years, as well as all other caregivers who took part in Barbara’s long struggle with the disease.
