FAYETTEVILLE — Charlene Sheffield Mooty Stark,
87, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born in Inverness, Miss., and grew up in Lake Village, Ark.
Charlene served much of her life in education, including from 1978-1997 at the University of Arkansas.
She received her bachelors degree from Judson College in Marion, Ala., and her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
She was head of the home economics department at Judson College, later moving to Fayetteville, Ark., where she worked in the home economics department at the University of Arkansas. She eventually became associate dean of the College of Agriculture at Arkansas, the first woman to hold that position.
She was preceded in death by parents Charles Conrad and Wilene Gilliam Sheffield; sister Josephine Smithey; and brother Will Sheffield.
She is survived by husband Bob Stark; children Will (Carolyn) Mooty of Auburn, Ala., Dean (Dee) Mooty of Montgomery, Ala., Dawn Mooty (Jimmy Chambliss) of Austin, Texas, and Kyle Mooty of Eufaula, Ala.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; stepchildren Susan (Jeff) Ray of Lavaca, Ark., and Robert (Caroline) Stark of Rogers, Ark., and two step-grandchildren.
Charlene was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Ark.
