ROGERS — Jerry D. Thompson

of Rogers passed away at home. He was born Dec. 26, 1952, in Kansas City, Mo., to Murl J. And Dorothy Nadine Grogan Thompson.

He was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church, a 1970 graduate of Elkins High School and a retired Army veteran, having served overseas in Vietnam, Germany and Operation Desert Storm. During Vietnam, he was crew chief on a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. He was a life-time member of the American Legion Springdale Post No. 139.

He was a security officer at the VA when he retired. He considered it an honor to serve our country and those who served in the armed forces.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by daughter Candace Thompson; son William Thompson, both of Bentonvill­e, Ark.; sisters Dianna Reyes and husband Carlos and Ruth Florer and husband Arthur of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; aunt Eva Fay Booker and husband Red of Elk Creek, Mo.; several cousins; three nieces; two nephews; two grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.

Friends and family members always knew when Christmas was coming. Jerry’s Christmas cards would be the first received during the Christmas holidays. And he never sent a card without about five return address labels affixed to the envelope.

Cremation arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Beard’s Funeral Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Fayettevil­le National Cemetery.
