ASU wins 19 events

Reigning Sun Belt Conference indoor track and field champion Arkansas State notched 19 first-place finishes and 47 top-three finishes Sunday in its first meet of the season, which it hosted in First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock and University of Central Arkansas teams also competed.

Camryn Newton-Smith went 19-11.5 in the long jump, won the 55-meter hurdles and high jumped 5-7.75 in winning three titles.

Reigning Sun Belt champion Lauren Beauchamp claimed the women’s pole vault title with a mark of 12-6.25.

Sophia Oury led a pack of Red Wolves that swept the top four places in the women’s mile with a time of 5:11.88.

ASU captured eight of the top nine places in the men’s 3,000 meters, led by Sun Belt cross country champion Bennett Pascoe’s 8:26.60. In the women’s 3,000 meters, the Red Wolves took the top four spots, led by Pauline Meyer’s 10:07.91.

ASU was dominant in the throwing events, winning both the men’s (Eric Williams) and women’s shot put (Evangelynn Harris) and the women’s weight throw (Grace Flowers).

Osereme Erewele won the women’s 55 and 200 meters, while on the men’s side, Jermie Walker won both of those races. Carter Shell took the men’s long jump title.

Kobey Hill won the men’s 400, while Ke’Von Holder won the 55 meter hurdles.

ASU closed the day with a victory in the men’s 1,600 meter relay UCA’s Hunter Henderson picked up a victory in the men’s mile, and TJ Robinson was solid in his debut as he won the 800 meters.

On the women’s side, UCA’s Taylor Coleman won the triple jump and the Bears won the 1,600 relay.
