SWAC MEN JACKSON STATE 64, UAPB 58, OT

Jackson State outscored the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 8-2 in the overtime period to earn the victory in Jackson, Miss.

After UAPB scored the first basket of overtime, Isaiah Williams’ jumper at 3:29 started an 8-0 run which Tristan Jarrett capped with two free throws in the waning moments.

Jarrett scored 32 points and was 14for-14 at the free-throw line. He also had 13 rebounds for Jackson State (9-5, 9-0 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), which won its ninth consecutiv­e game.

Dequan Morris had 12 points to lead the Golden Lions (3-20, 2-12), who have now lost 12 consecutiv­e games. Terrance Banyard added 10 points.

The Tigers outscored the Golden Lions in second-chance opportunit­ies, 13-0.

SOUTHLAND MEN STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 79, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 66

Cameron Johnson and Roti Ware scored 18 points apiece to lead the Lumberjack­s past the Bears in Conway.

Gavin Kensmil added 14 points, David Kachelries scored 11 and Charlie Daniels had 10 for the Lumberjack­s (15-4, 11-2 Southland Conference). Johnson shot 8 for 10 from the foul line. Ware also had six rebounds.

Jared Chatham had 18 points for the Bears (4-18, 3-11), who have lost both games to the Lumberjack­s this season. Eddy Kayouloud added 16 points, and Rylan Bergersen had 12 points and nine assists.

Stephen F. Austin quickly pushed its lead to eight points in the first six minutes of the second half. UCA responded with three-pointers from Kayouloud and Bergersen to keep the Bears within 51-47 with 12 minutes remaining. The Bears would get as close as six points, 69-63, on Jaxson Baker’s three-pointer with 2:50 left to play, but the Lumberjack­s closed out the win at the free-throw line.

SWAC WOMEN JACKSON STATE 84, UAPB 61

Jackson State used an early second-quarter run to pull away for a 44-27 halftime lead en route to the victory over UAPB in Jackson, Miss.

Jariyah Covington scored a career-high 24 points to lead Jackson State (14-4,130 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference).

UAPB (2-18, 1-13 SWAC) had four players score in double figures, led by Khadijah Brown, who had 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Jahnay Anderson added 13 points and Maya Peat chipped in as well with 10 points off the bench.

Jackson State shot 51.7% (30 of 58) from the field, while holding UAPB to 42.9% (21 of 49) from the floor. The Lady Tigers forced the Golden Lions into 19 turnovers, which they turned into 24 points.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN CENTRAL ARKANSAS 62, MCNEESE STATE 47

Central Arkansas led by seven points at the half and pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn the victory in Conway.

Carley Hudspeth led the Bears (1012, 8-6 Southland Conference) with 14 points. Briana Trigg and Lucy Ibeh each had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ayanna Trigg had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Kyla Hamilton powered McNeese State (6-13,6-6) with 19 points, and Maia Robinson had 10 points.

Central Arkansas shot 67.9% (19 of 28) from the free-throw line and were 20 of 61 from the floor (32.8%). McNeese State was 12 of 21 (57.1%) from the free-throw line and 17 of 48 from the floor (35.4%).
