Solve real problems
What is wrong with the Arkansas Legislature this session? I cannot remember a more hateful, vitriolic session in all the years I have been watching the Legislature. Their hearts must be filled with so much hate for women, minorities and transgender people that they have to create legislation to solve problems that do not exist, and refuse to do anything that would actually make life better for Arkansans.
Arkansas has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the U.S., but the Legislature does nothing to address this crisis. Maternal mortality is the third highest in the country, but they want to force every pregnant person to carry a fetus to term against the wishes of the mother.
They say that Arkansas is the most pro-life state in the union. But then they pass a law that makes it lawful to kill someone if the idiot carrying a gun feels threatened. This sounds like state-sponsored murder.
Not exactly pro-life to me.
We have one of the highest food insecurity rates in the country. Is the Legislature doing anything to bring good jobs to Arkansas? Is it doing anything to improve education in the state? Is it doing anything to make child care available and affordable so all parents can work at good-paying jobs? The answers to all these questions is a resounding no. But solving these real problems would go a long way to solving the food insecurity problem also.
What is wrong with these people? We know SB6 is a vehicle for Jason Rapert to get in the news so he can improve his chances at becoming lieutenant governor. But what is wrong with the rest of the Legislature? The most egregious bill of all is SB6. Maybe each legislator who voted for it should be forced to adopt three each of the 3,500 Arkansas children without permanent homes. Now that would be a real solution.
