HOPE CANCER

The Wellness Center for Hope at Hope Cancer Resources offers a yoga, meditation and fitness class for cancer patients and caregivers in person, via Zoom and YouTube.

Their team of counselors and social workers support cancer patients and their families every day with a focus on emotional health, no matter the circumstances.

A certified tobacco treatment specialist is available to support those looking to quit smoking with nicotine replacement therapy and counseling.

Those in need of medical supplies, liquid nutrition or durable medical equipment, such as shower chairs or walkers, are asked to reach out. Donations of new or gently used items are also accepted.

WELCOMEHEALTH

The Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation recently granted WelcomeHealth $50,000 to support the mission of providing no-cost medical and dental care to the most vulnerable community members.

With 60,000 Northwest Arkansas residents living in poverty and without insurance, there is definitely a need for free healthcare in the area. WelcomeHealth prides itself in being a stepping stone to better health and quality of life to those who cannot afford or access care elsewhere.

Funds received will help cover the costs of 1,440 free medical services for 233 low-income adults and children in WelcomeHealth’s medical and dental programs.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS

Centennial Bank has shown their dedication to children in their community with a $1,000 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas. The check was presented April 9 at the Big Brothers Big Sisters offices on Colt Square Drive in Fayetteville. Bigs and Littles from the program, as well as the Big Sister of the Year were in attendance.

In addition to their monetary donation, bank employees held a book drive to collect books for the children Big Brothers Big Sisters serves. The book drive was in conjunction with the BBBSNWA Read-A-Thon.

During the Read-A-Thon, Littles in the program read more than 4,000 minutes during the month of March.

Big Brothers Big Sisters focuses on a child’s potential and the role adults have to help children achieve their best possible futures. The organization’s mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth, and to defend the potential of every child

WRITERS’ COLONY

Gotahold Brewing has chosen the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow as their #TipsforTransformation recipient during the month of April, which is National Poetry Month. Poetry Happy Hours will be held at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday in the Beer Garden at Gotahold, 408 W. Van Buren St. in Eureka Springs. The proceeds will benefit the WCDH scholarship fund and celebrate the beauty and art of poetry. On April 22, poets Annie Newcomer and Erikka O’Toole will share their work.

WCDH will present a workshop for atists and creatives titled “So, You Want to Go Places with Your Art” from 9 a.m. to noon May 15 at 515 Spring St. in Eureka Springs. The workshop will be instructed by writer, storyteller, educator and musician Ken Waldman. All proceeds from the workshop will benefit the WCDH scholarship fund. The cost of the workshop is $35.

WCDH is seeking an assistant director, and applications are currently being accepted online through May 5.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas announces the following classes for the upcoming week:

• April 13: “Inside the Farm,” (in person). Have you ever wondered what goes on at “The Farm” just north of the University of Arkansas campus? Celebrating its 100th year in 2019 and originally known as the Main Agricultural Experiment Station until 1996, the 725-acre Arkansas Agricultural Research and Extension Center is the main research station for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and involves all Division research disciplines in the areas of animal science; poultry science; food science; horticulture; insect pests and plant diseases; crops, soil and water resources; biological and agricultural engineering; and agriscience and technology. More than 250 faculty/ extension personnel, research specialists, technicians, and graduate students work at the center. Come and tour the facility and get insights into some of the novel research being conducted here. $25 members, $40 nonmembers.

RED CROSS

With no substitute for blood and no way to manufacture it, volunteer donors are essential for hospital patients in need of transfusions. During National Volunteer Month this April, the American Red Cross is celebrating the blood, platelet and plasma donors who help fulfill its lifesaving mission and urging healthy individuals to join them in giving.

Nearly 2.6 million Red Cross volunteer donors step up every year to ensure blood is on the shelves when patients need it. The generosity of these heroes has been especially impactful over the past year as they helped the Red Cross continue to meet patient needs amid the covid-19 pandemic.

As a special thank-you, those who come to give by April 30 will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of five $1,000 e-gift cards to a merchant of choice.
