FAYETTEVILLE — Conrad Sawyer,

-

74, of Fayetteville, died December 4, 2021, at Fayetteville Health and Rehab Nursing Facility. He was born February 6, 1947, in Bangor, Maine. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Elizabeth Sawyer and his brother, Stephen Sawyer.

He is survived by his older brother, James B. Sawyer, nieces: Stephanie Sawyer, Valerie Sawyer, Diedre Frisby, Jennifer Reznicek, and nephew, Paul Sawyer.

Conrad was graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1969 with B.A. in History; and in 1974, he obtained a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Arkansas. He worked as an editor with the University of Arkansas Press, did freelance editing, and wrote articles for The Grapevine. He was a member of the ACLU and an ardent Democrat. Conrad never met a cat he didn’t like.

In winter months Conrad could be found on most Fridays holding court in the corner booth at George’s Majestic Lounge. In warmer weather, he would be under the wisteria in the Beer Garden. Happy Hour on Fridays was the favorite time for certain vintage folks to gather there. At 5 p.m., before the dancing, the music, and the beer flowing, Conrad was already expounding on the national political scene, the Razorbacks, and local culture. As the evening went on, Conrad’s group became more animated and more nonsensical. Their laughter was heard even over the music.

Conrad’s friends are invited to attend a Memorial Reception for him on Tuesday, December 14, in the Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 2 p.m.
