Constructionist court leaves leftists in tizzy
It’s been an incredible couple of weeks in America. We have witnessed Supreme Court decisions that defended and strengthened the First Amendment (religious liberty) and the Second Amendment. And the court overturned Roe v. Wade, which had no constitutional basis whatsoever. The reason these things happened is simple: a majority of Supreme Court justices based their decision on the clear language of the Constitution.
Such decisions seem incredible to us because, with regard to many of the most significant issues of our day, the Supreme Court has not followed our Constitution in decades.
The left is freaking out to the point of proposing the most radical, unconstitutional actions to reverse these decisions. Some might even say some of these proposed actions could be described as an insurrection.
Make no mistake, the reason for their hyper-insane response goes far beyond these recent rulings, significant though they may be. The left fully realize something many on our side have not yet grasped. For several decades the left has enacted their preferred policies through the courts, not through legislative action. Because the majority of Americans would never support their crazy ideas, legislative action was futile. Without the courts, especially the Supreme Court, the leftist agenda is dead on arrival.
In other words, a Supreme Court that follows the Constitution is an existential threat to the left, and they know it.
So how did we get to the place where a majority of the Supreme Court has rediscovered fidelity to the Constitution? A few years ago a presidential candidate pledged to appoint only Supreme Court justices from a list of judges who had long demonstrated allegiance to the Constitution as originally written and understood, as opposed to a “living Constitution” that could be interpreted to achieve whatever outcome was desired. This candidate was attacked and ridiculed by the left and the media for such an insane idea. In fact, his pledge was offered as evidence that he should never be elected at all. But apparently the American people liked the idea of following the Constitution. For this, and other reasons, this candidate was elected president of the United States.
Then an amazing thing happened. This president actually did what he told the American people he would do. Because of President Trump, we have a majority on the court, at least for now, who follow the Constitution as written. It’s a shame this president wasn’t reelected. If he had been, the Supreme Court majority that follows the Constitution would be even stronger than it was last week.
