FAYETTEVIL­LE — Peter Thomas Loris,

94, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022. He was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on July 8, 1928 to the late Tom and Addie (Johnson) Loris. He graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1946, met and married the love of his life, Jeanette (Miller) Loris, and began a 38 year career working for the Postal Service, serving in many capacities, eventually retiring as senior director of customer service for NW AR Sectional Center in Fort Smith, on assignment as special assistant to the regional manager in Memphis. He and Jeanette raised their two boys, Stephen Thomas Loris and David Nicholas Loris, in Fort Smith, and later moved to Fayettevil­le in 1996. He became a member of Central United Methodist Church. Upon retirement he spent 18 years ushering (eventually as supervisor) both basketball and football games for his beloved Razorbacks. He also spent 12 years as a member of, and later chairman of, the Washington County Election Commission. For 10 years he volunteere­d for the IRS Vita program. Peter was both a local and state president of the Letter Carriers Associatio­n of AR. He served as president of the Senior Democrats of Washington County. He was on the Fayettevil­le Tree and Landscape Committee and was a dedicated Master Gardener.

Peter loved his family, his friends, wearing hats, combat with squirrels, fried tomatoes, spinning long tales about his Greek heritage, and his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jeanette, his son David (wife Xuan), his grandson Jeremy Thomas Loris (wife Kelly), his granddaugh­ters Ellen Loris Hargis, Sophia Claire Loris, Thanh Mai Loris, and his great-granddaugh­ters Madelyn Da Silva and Emma Hargis, as well as many additional nieces, nephews, inlaws, and dear friends.

A brief service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the burial site in Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held from 2-4 p.m., on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Son’s Chapel in Fayettevil­le.
