Arkansas State trailed for more than 36 minutes Saturday afternoon before its four-game winning streak was snapped by Louisiana-Monroe at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

A 21- 6 run for the Warhawks in the first half put them up 37-24 and they cruised to their second Sun Belt Conference victory in three days. Louisiana-Monroe (6-9, 2-0 Sun Belt Conference) had four players in double figures — led by 25 points from Jamari Blackmon — and shot 12 of 21 on three-pointers.

The Red Wolves got another double-double from Omar El-Sheikh, who 7 of 10 shots to finish with 18 points and 15 rebounds. ASU (9-6, 1-1) shot 51.0% from the field, and guard Caleb Fields became the 30th player in program history to log 1,000 career assists, adding eight against the Warhawks.

OHIO VALLEY MEN

TENNESSEE STATE 94,

UALR 69

Tennessee State led wire-to-wire Saturday afternoon at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tenn., rolling past the University of Arkansas-Little Rock with 58.9% shooting and a game-high 27 points by Marcus Fitzgerald Jr.

Jr. Clay was one of three other players to reach double figures for the Tigers, who shot 14 of 25 on three-pointers — five by Clay. Despite 19 turnovers, Tennessee State (9-6, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference) scored at least 45 points in both halves.

Jordan Jefferson led the Trojans with 17 points, making four three-pointers on six attempts. Leading scorer Myron Gardner was held to 10 points on 3-of11 shooting in 26 minutes for UALR (5-10, 1-1), which could not collect its first-ever Ohio Valley road victory.

ASUN MEN

KENNESAW STATE 82,

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 66

The University of Central Arkansas dropped its ASUN opener Saturday at the KSU Convocatio­n Center in Kennesaw, Ga., after being outscored 4935 in the second half.

UCA (5-9, 0-1) entered halftime trailing 33-31, but Kennesaw State (9-5, 1- 0) opened the second half with a 19-4 run to make it 52-35. The Owls shot 59.4% from the field in the second half and made 7 of- 9 three-pointers. UCA shot 37.5% in the second half and 35.4% for the game.

The Bears followed with a 21-8 run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Camren Hunter to make it 70-58 inside five minutes to play.

Hunter led UCA with 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting. Eddy Kayouloud had 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

UCA was without starting guard Collin Cooper. In his place, redshirt freshman VJ Reeves scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds in a season-high 25 minutes.

Demond Robinson led Kennesaw State with 21 points. Chris Youngblood (14), Brandon Stroud (12) and Spencer Rodgers (10) each scored in double figures for the Owls.

The Owls outscored the Bears 40-26 in the lane.

OHIO VALLEY WOMEN

UALR 64,

TENNESSEE STATE 57

Making its road Ohio Valley Conference debut, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock held off a fourth-quarter charge by Tennessee State to win at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday afternoon.

Sali Kourouma came off the bench for the Trojans again, scoring 15 points in 23 minutes in her second game of the season for UALR (5-8, 2-0 Ohio Valley). Angelique Francis had 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Tigers made 20 of 26 free throws as a team. Erica Haynes-Overton hit 13 of 14 free throws and finished with 22 points.

Tennessee State (5-8, 0-2) got within 56-53 with 4:28 to play, but it scored just four points the rest of the way.

SUN BELT WOMEN

GEORGIA SOUTHERN 99,

ARKANSAS STATE 86

Shooting better than 52% from the field and making 12 three- pointers, Georgia Southern took down Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon at Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Ga.

The Red Wolves, who trailed by 11 at halftime and 10 after three quarters, trimmed their deficit from 17 to nine entering the game’s final minute, but ASU (5-8, 0-2 Sun Belt Conference) couldn’t get any closer.

Five players reached double figures for the Red Wolves. Lauryn Pendleton scored a team-high 24 points and Jade Upshaw added 20 off the bench with four three-pointers.

Terren Ward was dominant for the Eagles, scoring 40 points on 14-of-21 shooting and grabbing six rebounds. Georgia Southern ( 9- 2, 1- 1) outrebound­ed ASU 42-35 and came up a point shy of reaching 100 for the third time this season.
