SWAC MEN

JACKSON STATE 88, UAPB 84 (2OT)

Romelle Mansel had 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists to propel Jackson State (7-17, 6-5 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) in a double-overtime thriller.

Ken Evans and Coltie Young had 15 points and 14 points respective­ly for the Tigers, who survived after battling back in regulation. UAPB (10-14, 6-5) led 64-62 with seven seconds left in the second half until Zeke Cook knocked down two free throws for Jackson State to send the game into the first overtime tied at 64-64.

The Tigers managed to hold the lead for much of the first extra session and was up 77-74, but the Golden Lions’ Chris Greene drilled a three- pointer with seven seconds showing to eventually force another overtime. The lead changed hands four times in the second extra period before Evans’ three-pointer with 1:57 remaining gave Jackson State an 84-83 advantage. The Tigers were able to hold on from there.

Shaun Doss Jr. had 32 points while Kylen Milton had 18 points for UAPB, which faced a 38-28 deficit at halftime. Greene finished with 15 points.

JACKSON STATE 88, UAPB 53

A 15-1 run early in the second quarter busted open a close game and gave way to another victory for Jackson State (13-8, 10-1 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in Jackson, Miss.

Five players finished in double figures for the Tigers (13-8, 10-1), led by Daphane White’s 16 points and 10 rebounds. Angel Jackson also had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Ti’lan Boler put in 13 points. Jariyah Covington ended with 10 points, and Keshuna Luckett came off the bench to score 10 points for the Tigers, who beat the Golden Lions (8-13, 6-5) for the 10th consecutiv­e time.

Maori Davenport capped the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds for UAPB, which was down 16- 15 with 8:47 to go in the second before Jackson State’s 14-point run led to a huge lead. The Tigers went on to build a 36-18 cushion by halftime and continuous­ly increased their advantage throughout the second half.
