age 92, of Rogers, Ark., passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Circle of Life Legacy Village in Bentonvill­e, Ark. He was born on Monday, May 19, 1930, in Hope, Ark., to Allen Bernard Sr. and Bertha Jane Erskine (Willis).

James graduated from Prescott High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduation and served as a Paratroope­r in the 82nd Airborne Division. He and his wife Barbara Jean Horne were married on Wednesday, February 14, 1951, in Prescott, Ark. After his four years of service in the Army, he attended the University of Arkansas and received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineerin­g. He spent most of his career at Arkansas Power and Light, retiring in 1988. After retiring, he and his wife traveled extensivel­y all over the United States and parts of Canada.

He was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church, and was active in many capacities. He loved to golf, to read, and he enjoyed working on many electrical and mechanical projects, both small and large. He was most proud of his family; they were his greatest accomplish­ment.

He was preceded in death by his parents: A.B. and Bertha, his daughter: Nancy Sharon Erskine, six sisters and one brother.

James is survived by his wife: Barbara Jean Erskine, two children: Karen Jean Lanctot of Bella Vista, Ark., and Steven Randall Erskine ( Debbie) of Lake Jackson, Texas, seven grandchild­ren: Matt Core (Shelley) of Nevada, Lisa Core of Nevada, Mina Core (Shannon) of Arkansas, Marc Core (Deidre) of California, Laura Nichols (Justin) of Texas, Peter Erskine (Monica) of Texas, and Micaela Dougan (Ryan) of Texas, 16 great grandchild­ren, one sister: Betty Ann Clark of New Mexico, and a host of extended family and friends.

He will be laid to rest with a private ceremony on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery, with a public Celebratio­n of Life Service afterward at Bella Vista Baptist Church at 2, p.m., Pastor Brent Summerhill officiatin­g.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n, Circle of Life Hospice, or Bella Vista Baptist Church.
