SOFTBALL MONDAY HACKETT 13, WALDRON 0

Makenzie Freeman pitched the sixth perfect game of her career in the season-opener as the Lady Hornets routed Waldron.

Freeman struck out 11 over five innings. Last season the sophomore pitched five perfect games.

While Makenzie was dealing in the circle, Michaelyn Freeman was dominating at the plate, belting three triples and driving in 4 runs for the Lady Hornets (1-0). Taylor Nichols was 3 for 4 and Lexi Gann was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI for Hackett.

TUESDAY BENTONVILL­E 10, ROGERS 0

Ryann Sanders picked up where she left off last season, dominating in the circle as the defending 6A state champion Lady Tigers claimed a season-opening and 6A-West opening shutout of Rogers.

Sanders allowed just 4 hits and struck out 5 to earn the win. Ella Beeman took the loss for the Lady Mounties (0-1, 0-1).

Bentonvill­e got big production from the lower half of the order as Audrey Lacina and Tallulah Pascucci each had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.

Sara Watson also drove in a pair of runs for Bentonvill­e (1-0, 1-0).

HACKETT 6, FS NORTHSIDE 1

Makenzie Freeman allowed just one hit and the Lady Hornets moved to 2-0 on the season with a nonconfere­nce win over the Class 6A Lady Grizzlies.

Freeman struck out 7 and walked just 1 batter in the complete-game win.

Hackett jumped on Northside early, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Hornets belted 5 straight singles to start the inning and added two more for the 5-0 lead. That was more than enough for Freeman.

Michaelyn Freeman was 3 f0r 4 for the Lady Hornets and Lilly Oxford and Alona Rothwell also had 3 hits each. Taylor Nichols drove in 2 runs.

FARMINGTON 2, SPRINGDALE HAR-BER 1 (8)

The Lady Cardinals scored an extra-inning win as the winning run scored on a single by Amia Carr in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Kennedy Griggs earned the win in the circle, allowing 6 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Mallory Sills and Skyler Riddle each belted doubles for the Lady Cards (1-0). Har-Ber led 1-0 into the seventh, but Farmington tied the game on an RBI double by Emmalee Farmer.

Anniston Reith took the loss for Har-Ber (0-1), allowing just 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and did not allow a walk.

ROGERS HERITAGE 12, HUNTSVILLE 2

Karlee Earl belted 2 doubles and earned the win in the circle for the Lady War Eagles on Tuesday.

Earl was 3 for 4 at the plate, and allowed just 2 hits with 5 strikeouts in the circle for Heritage (2-0). Isabelle Ulepich was also 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI, and Joclyn Strickland was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Kyler Strickland added a two-run triple in the win.

VAN BUREN 4, PRAIRIE GROVE 0

Emberline Caldwell allowed just 2 hits to lead the Lady Pointers to a shutout win Tuesday.

Caldwell struck out 14 to earn the complete-game win. Riley Lowrey homered, doubled and was 3 for 3 at the plate for Van Buren (2-0). Kyleigh Kuykendall was 2 for 2 and Hailey Allen belted an RBI triple.

Kennison Hamilton was 2 for 3 for Prairie Grove.

FAYETTEVIL­LE 12, SPRINGDALE 6

The Lady Purple’Dogs scored all the runs they needed in the first inning in a 6A-West opening win.

Fayettevil­le scored eight runs in the first with Allie Bowerman delivering the big blow with a two-run double to highlight a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Micah Bailey also smashed three hits and Brooke Davis cracked a home run for Fayettevil­le.

Kaylee Harp homered for Springdale and Isabel Peters was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI .

BASEBALL ROGERS 14, BENTONVILL­E 0

Jake Taylor threw a no-hitter, while Reece Bariola and Jacob Watson combined to drive in seven runs as Rogers completed a 6A-West Conference sweep of Bentonvill­e at the Tiger Athletic Complex.

Taylor needed 66 pitches, 40 for strikes, to pick up the win as he faced one batter over the minimum for five innings.

Bariola belted a two-run double during a five-run third and also drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth. Watson drove in the Mounties’ first run on a squeeze play and drew a pair of bases-loaded walks.

Gabe Salinas and Zach Lawing added two hits and two RBI apiece for Rogers (2-0).

FAYETTEVIL­LE 13, SPRINGDALE 1

Landon Schaefer belted a grand slam, and Zach Adams also had a home run as Fayettevil­le pounded Springdale and earned a sweep in their 6A-West series.

Adams had a solo shot in the fourth inning, while Schaefer’s shot capped a five-run fifth and closed out the scoring for the Purple’Dogs (2-0, 2-0). Payton Wright had three hits and four RBI, including a bases-clearing triple during a five-run first.

Cade Costello picked up the win as he allowed one run on three hits and struck out four over five innings.

SPRINGDALE HAR-BER 11, ROGERS HERITAGE 3

Leadoff hitter Luke Cornelison had two hits and drove in four runs to lead Har-Ber to its second win over Heritage in as many days as War Eagle Field.

Cornelison belted a two-run double as part of a four-run fourth as the Wildcats (2-0) snapped a 2-2 deadlock. The Wildcats then added three more runs in the fifth to pull away.

Brady Smith and Jeff Zachry each drove in two runs for HarBer. Tyler Ridley and Gavin Moore combined to hold Heritage to five hits.

ELKINS 29, NWA HORNETS 0

Zanuel Martin had a home run and drove in four runs as Elkins opened its season with a blowout victory over the Hornets.

Elkins erupted for 15 runs in the first inning, then continued the route with 12 runs in the second. Landon Martin had three hits and drove in three runs for the Elks, while Trace Keller added two hits and three RBI for the Elks.

Dizzy Dean and two relievers combined to throw a three-hitter and picked up 11 strikeouts.

PRAIRIE GROVE 10, SILOAM SPRINGS 0

Owen Davenport belted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs to pace Prairie Grove to its second win in as many days.

Davenport drove in the Tigers’ first run with a first-inning single, then added an RBI double as part of a four-run second. He then added an RBI double as part of a four-run fourth.

Connor Hubbs added two hits and drove in two runs for Prairie Grove. Caleb Carte threw five shutout innings and recorded the win, allowing six hits while striking out three.

GRAVETTE 6, GREENWOOD 5

Cyric Day’s two-run single in the second inning gave Gravette the lead for good, and the Lions held off Greenwood to post the nonconfere­nce victory.

Day also raced home on a wild pitch as part of a four-run fourth as Gravette owned a 6-0 lead. The Lions, though, had to hang on as Greenwood scored all of its runs in the fifth.

Justin Trucks drove in what proved to be Gravette’s decisive run and had two hits for the Lions. Grant Karnes had two hits and an RBI for Greenwood.

FARMINGTON 5, GROVE, OKLA. 3

Lawson DeVault’s fourth-inning single drove in Zane Schmitt to break a 2-2 tie, and Farmington went on to post a victory over Grove.

DeVault also caused another run to score when he was caught trying to steal, which allowed Will Hellard to score and give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.

Hellard had three hits to lead Farmington, while Schmitt and Morgan Schader added two hits apiece.
