■ Pope Francis, the 86- year- old head of the Catholic Church, told Argentine newspaper La Nacion that he would either travel to Ukraine and Russia or “to neither,” noting that the ongoing war between the former Soviet nations “hurts.”

■ Thomas Gilliland, spokesman for the Harris County, Texas, sheriff’s office, said deputies found “the body of a male also that had been severely decomposed” inside the home of another man, who fatally shot himself just before they entered.

■ Clay Morris, police chief in Pell City, Ala., said in a statement officers “determined no criminal conduct had occurred” as parents claim their son received a concussion after baseball teammates beat him with pillows concealing unknown objects.

■ Debra Crum, executive of nonprofit Mississipp­i Wildlife Rehabilita­tion, said a bald eagle’s six-week treatment for a shoulder that was bruised by a car “consisted of limited flight … up to physical therapy.” ■ Kevin McCarthy, Republican speaker of the U. S. House, said he will “slowly roll out to every individual news agency” more than 40,000 hours of security video from the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

■ Lara Anton, spokespers­on for the Texas Department of State Health Services, which issued a warning that a radiograph­ic camera used to detect cracks or flaws in constructi­on had been missing for several days in the Houston area, said, “If somebody were to try and take it apart and get to the radioactiv­e material, it’s pretty dangerous pretty quickly.” ■ Edi Villalobos Jr., a 28-year-old man accused of stabbing two men and killing one, faces additional charges of first-degree burglary and second- degree escape after he was found hiding in a vacant apartment hours after he fled from a courthouse.

■ Randall Berka II, 30, of Sebewaing, Mich., was charged with illegal gun possession because he was declared incapacita­ted, which bars him from possessing guns or ammunition, the FBI said in a criminal complaint.

■ Michelle Fontes, who participat­ed in the 1992 protest to remove a partial Malcolm X quote from the facade of University of Rhode Island’s main library that Black students claimed misreprese­nted the activist’s message, said “this quote finally being removed is proof that our new administra­tion is listening and striving to do better.”
