BENTONVILLE 9, FAYETTEVILLE 1

BENTONVILLE — Tuesday was Tallulah Pascucci Day at Bentonville, and the senior second baseman made sure the celebration was a big one.

Pascucci, who is headed to the University of Central Arkansas, drove in three runs to power the Tigers to a 9-1 win at home against Fayetteville in 6A-West action.

“I thought she played really well today,” said Bentonville coach Kent Early, whose team will travel to Gulf Port, Miss. today for a spring break road trip over the next four days. “I thought she had a big hit there at the end but the wind held it up a little. But she’s a competitor.”

Bentonville ( 6- 1 , 3- 0 6A-West) scored four runs in the first inning and two more in the second for a 6-0 lead, then shifted into cruise control the rest of the way.

Pitchers Ryann Sanders (4IP, 2 hits, 5 strikeouts) and Kasey Wood (3IP, 0 hits, 5 strikeouts) were dominant in the circle, and the Tigers provided enough offense to secure the win.

Wood and Pascucci belted back-to-back triples and Wood also added a double for Bentonville. Amber Turner also cranked a double and Trista Peterson added a pair of RBIs.

“I thought both of our pitchers pitched well today,” said Early. “We needed to get both of them some mound time before we leave. We kind of split it when we were in Louisiana to give them that opportunity, and right now Kasey is throwing a little harder. And it gives teams a different look, so we thought, why not?”

Fayetteville’s Madelyn Smythe came on in relief of starter Claire Chapple with bases loaded and two outs in the third, and Smythe got out of the jam on a fly to center, then went two more innings and allowed four hits the rest of the way, holding the potent Bentonville bats at bay for the most part.

Linly Chapman and Chappel had one hit each for Fayetteville (1-6, 1-3).
