Love and lies: Apple debuts ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ with Jennifer Garner

WHAT’S NEW ON APPLE TV+ “The Last Thing He Told Me”

Based on the bestsellin­g novel of the same name by Laura Dave, the new, seven-part limited series, “The Last Thing He Told Me,” follows the journey of a mother and stepdaught­er as they are brought together by terrifying circumstan­ces. The series premieres its first two episodes Friday, April 14, with episodes airing weekly on Fridays thereafter. “The Last Thing He Told Me” stars Jennifer Garner (“Alias”) as Hannah, a woman whose life is upended when her husband, Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, “Game of Thrones”), mysterious­ly goes missing. Left behind with nothing but a note to protect her 16-year-old stepdaught­er, Bailey (Angourie Rice, “Mare of Easttown”), who wants nothing to do with her, the pair slowly grow closer as they work to find out what really happened to Owen. Adapted for the screen by Dave, the series is executive produced by Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoo­n (“Wild,” 2014) and Lauren Neustadter (“Little Fires Everywhere”). “The Last Thing He Told Me” also stars Aisha Tyler (“Criminal Minds”), Augusto Aguilera (“Too Old to Die Young”), Geoff Stults (“Guilty Party”) and John Harlan Kim (“9-1-1”).

WHAT’S NEW ON NETFLIX “The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die” (2023)

The epic saga of “The Last Kingdom” wraps up with the followup film, “The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die,” when it premieres on Netflix Friday, April 14. Based on the Saxon Stories series of novels by Bernard Cornwell, “The Last Kingdom” is set in England in the first century, as a century-long war has raged through the land between its inhabitant­s and the Danish invaders, with a tentative peace settled between nearly everyone — except Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon, “American Horror Story”), ruling over Northumbri­a, who has yet to pledge his land to the throne. But, when King Edward (Timothy Innes, “Harlots”) dies, the peace is threatened once again as his two potential heirs, Aethelstan (Harry Gilby, “Tolkien,” 2019) and Aelfweard (Ewan Horrocks, “Domina”), battle to claim the crown. Faced with difficult decisions about the future of the country, Uhtred and his cohort embark on a journey across the country in the hopes of uniting England at last. Directed by Edward Bazalgette (“Marie Antoinette”) with a screenplay by executive producer Martha Hillier (“Vera”), “The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die” is produced by Mat Chaplin (“Fortitude”), Nigel Marchant (“Downton Abbey”) and Gareth Neame (“The Gilded Age”). WHAT’S NEW ON HULU “Am I Being Unreasonab­le?” - Season 1

The hit BBC comedy thriller series “Am I Being Unreasonab­le?” makes its leap across the pond and onto Hulu Tuesday, April 11. Daisy May Cooper (“This Country”) stars as Nic, who is grieving a loss she can’t share with anyone else while stuck in a depressing marriage, with only her son, Ollie (Lenny Rush, “Apple Tree House”), keeping her going. But when she finds a kindred spirit in Jen (Selin Hizli, “Grantchest­er”), a new arrival to town, Nic soon finds her dark secret starting to bubble up. Created and written by stars Cooper and Hizli, “Am I Being Unreasonab­le?” is directed by Jonny Campbell (“Informer”). The series also stars Dustin Demri-Burns (“Slow Horses”), Karla Crome (“Misfits”), Ruben Catt (“Maxxx,” 2020), David Fynn (“The Pembrokesh­ire Murders”), Samuel Bottomley (“Ackley Bridge”), Yohanna Ephrem (“The Rook”), Amanda Wilkin (“Finding Alice”) and Juliet Cowan (“Cuckoo”). “Am I Being Unreasonab­le?” is executive produced by Cooper and Hizli, Campbell, Jack Thorne (“His Dark Materials”), Shane Allen (“Staged”) and Kate Daughton (“The Outlaws”) for Boffola Pictures, Faith Penhale (“Gentleman Jack”) for Lookout Point and Tanya Qureshi (“I May Destroy You”) for BBC.

34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - Special

Hulu plays host to the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for the third consecutiv­e year when the event streams Wednesday, April 12. Since it was first establishe­d in 1990, each year the GLAAD Media Awards honor media across the industry for fair, accurate and inclusive representa­tions of the LGBTQ+ community, people and issues. Filmed in Los Angeles at the end of March, this year’s ceremony celebrates all of the achievemen­ts from the last year in style, with performanc­es by “Girl of My Dreams” singer FLETCHER and Canada-based South African country singer Orville Peck (“Bronco”), both of whom are nominated for outstandin­g music artist. Recognizin­g artists from all branches of the entertainm­ent industry, the event’s nearly 40 categories include awards for film, television, documentar­y features, music, theater, children and family programmin­g, podcasts, comics, video games, journalism, variety and reality shows, print media, Spanish-language programmin­g and more.

WHAT’S NEW ON DISNEY+ “Rennervati­ons” - Season 1

Embracing his lifelong passion for giving back, actor Jeremy Renner (“Hawkeye”) is helping to better communitie­s around the world in the new four-part series “Rennervati­ons,” which makes its Disney+ premiere Wednesday, April 12. Reimaginin­g unique, purpose-built vehicles to meet a community’s particular needs, the series goes behind the scenes as Renner, a constructi­on veteran, his best friend and business partner, Rory Millikin, and an all-star constructi­on crew travel the globe hoping to make life a little easier everywhere they go. Throughout the series, the team turns a tour bus into a mobile music studio, a delivery truck into a mobile water treatment facility, a shuttle bus into a mobile recreation center, and a city bus into a mobile dance studio, while special celebrity guests Anthony Mackie (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Vanessa Hudgens (“Tick, Tick… Boom!” 2021), Anil Kapoor (“Slumdog Millionair­e,” 2008) and Sebastián Yatra (“Encanto,” 2021) join in to help out along the way.
