FAYETTEVILLE — Margot K. Martin
unexpectedly passed away from natural causes in her home in Fayetteville on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
She led a very active life. Her calendar was filled with social engagements involving dear friends and volunteer work with several organizations, whose causes she cared about deeply. She was planning on celebrating her 86th birthday on the weekend.
She was born May 27, 1937 in New Haven, Conn.
In 1964, after graduating from Vassar and receiving a masters from Yale, she moved to Fayetteville with her husband, Duncan Martin, who had just taken a position with the University of Arkansas as a zoology professor. She worked throughout her life, teaching Spanish and Latin at Fayetteville High School, then teaching Spanish to University students at the U of A. Once she retired from teaching, she became a long time volunteer for NW Arkansas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children). She also served as a program manager for CEO (Community Emergency Outreach) for decades. She has been an active member of St. Thomas’s church and a close friend to many members of the community. She provided loving support for her family and many friends.
She is survived by her son, Ian Martin, and his wife, Katie Remell; her daughter, Siobhan Martin; and grandson, James Ferlazzo; as well as her brother, James Kenefick, Jr.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family is requesting donations to NW Arkansas Casa in lieu of flowers: Make A Donation - CASA of Northwest Arkansas (nwacasa.org). A funeral mass was held at St Thomas Church on May 26. She will be greatly missed.
