Fun at the Har-Ber Museum and Village!

- By Karen Rice | Official Kids Mag

Har-Ber Village is a one-of-a-kind pioneer-era village and history museum that the entire family will enjoy. Located on the shores of Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma, it has a replica pioneer village, a Kids Corner with interactive exhibits, a mining station, nature trails, and there is even a restaurant on site.

The replica pioneer village includes many of the same features that a village would have had in the 1800s. There is a courthouse, doctor and dentist offices, a one-room schoolhouse, a bank and a jail. The village includes a living history cabin, homesteads and mercantile stores, and a working blacksmith forge.

“We are a walk-through of an Ozark village from about 1830 to 1840,” said Nicole Reynolds, executive director of Har-Ber Village. “Each building is outfitted with the antiques of that era. Our schoolhouse, for example, is the one-room schoolhouse from Goshen, Arkansas. It was originally opened as the Mountain Home School in 1902.”

The Har-Ber Village Museum has a lot of collections on display. At the Carriages, Wagons and Buggies exhibit, you will see a chuck wagon, a prairie schooner and two stagecoaches. There is also a Farm Equipment exhibit that has early hay baling machines, steam engines, tractors, plows, and much more. Doll lovers can spend hours looking at the amazing Doll Exhibit that includes American Girl dolls, Kewpie dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids, just to name a few. There is also a Military Exhibit that has on display a wide variety of uniforms and military items from the Revolutionary War through Desert Storm.

The Kids Corner features a Kids Cabin, a Toy Room, and a fun way to learn about history – the Hands-On History Family Interactive Map. This season the new Transportation Room has been opened in the Kids Corner.

The Har-Ber Village Nature Trail is a 2-mile journey that includes educational panels about indigenous fauna and flora, reptiles, mammals and birds. Some of the trails are paved, and some are not. Pets are welcome on the trails, as long as they are on a leash. The Nature Trail is free and open from sunrise to sunset.

Har-Ber Village and Museum is suitable for all ages and features programs for children and adults. It is a unique way to learn about history and how people lived in our area in the past, and it’s all in one location.

“It is unusual to get to see so many local artifacts representing how our forefathers in the area lived,” Reynolds said. “It gives our children, and generations to come, a place to come as a family and reminisce together.”
