The best barbecues start at Richard’s Meat Market

- BY KAREN RICE | NORTHWEST ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

Barbecue season is officially here in Northwest Arkansas, and you’ll want to get ready with a trip to Richard’s Meat Market in Fayetteville. For nearly 30 years, Richard’s has been the place to go for the best selection of prime cuts of beef, pork, chicken, lamb, veal, sausage, seafood and more. So when you’re ready to fire up the grill or smoker, a trip to this iconic butcher counter should be first on your list.

Quality and Variety

Shopping at Richard’s will make you never want to buy mass-market grocery chain meat and seafood again.

There is no comparison when it comes to the quality you will find here. Instead of shrink-wrapped packaging, you get fresh, high-quality meats that are cut to order, raised ethically, and often locally sourced.

Their large glass cases display a truly impressive selection of anything your grill master heart desires: ribs, chicken, prime cuts of beef, shish kebabs, and endless varieties of Italian sausage, bratwurst and more … all ready to turn into barbecue masterpieces.

The market’s freshly ground seasoned burgers—including a bison burger—are customer favorites, and perfect for the grill. You’ll also find classic baconwrapped tenderloin filets.

They also offer 5-6 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish on any given day, along with an impressive selection of frozen fish.

You’ll also find a wide range of items you just won’t find at the supermarket. Quail, duck, gator tail meat, lamb and veal are available here. Plus, they have a variety of hard-to-find deli items like liverwurst and pimento loaf. They also have soup bones for creating steaming bowls of goodness, or for giving to your canine friend.

Stock Your Freezer

Richard’s Country Meat Market also offers freezer bundles – a great way to have top-quality meat on hand for all your summer barbecues, while saving money and time.

“We’ve been selling a lot of our freezer bundles because people want to load up,” McGinnis said. “We have five different bundles to choose from: Variety Bundle, Steak Bundle, Smoker Bundle, Deluxe Bundle and Richard’s Special, plus 20-pound and 40-pound frozen packs of ground beef.” The prices for the bundles vary week-to-week.

Customer Service

Owner Richard McGinnis has dedicated his adult life to providing superior meats and customer service. He started young in the food industry, and now has more than 50 years of experience, from which he offers sage advice to those seeking the finest ingredients, recipes, and cooking techniques. The original Country Time Meat Shoppe opened in Fayetteville in the 1980s. In 1997, Richard made it his own family business and named it Richard’s Country Meat Market.

The market’s product selection is topped only by its outstanding customer service. Knowledgeable staff is always on hand, ready to help you figure out how much you need and what cuts are best, even how to cook your selections.

“We pride ourselves in having top-choice and prime graded meat,” McGinnis said of his steaks. “But it’s really our customer service and quality that separates us from the competition.”

Ready Meals

For easy and hearty meals anytime, Richard’s Country Meat Market offers delicious frozen foods to go. The delectable selections includes lasagna, manicotti, Shepherd’s Pie, Twice Baked Potatoes, Quiche, Chicken Pot Pie, Eggplant Parmesan, Beef Enchiladas and more. They also feature 12 varieties of homemade soups in quart containers in the freezer, including vegetable beef, chicken noodle, lobster bisque, gumbos and homemade chili – all great to have on hand for those nights when time is short.

Bakery Items and Other Delicacies

The market offers loaves of delicious, fresh-baked bread to go with your soup; and there’s no better way to end a meal than with one of their delicious homemade pies, desserts or cookies. They also have an amazing selection of gourmet food items that you won’t find anywhere else, and a wide variety of homemade seasonings available, including barbeque, steak rubs, and more.

Curbside Service Available

Richard’s Country Meat Market offers the time-saving option of curbside service.

“We’ve found that our customers really like the convenience of curbside,” McGinnis said. “They can still come inside if they want to, but we also know that some of our customers would rather have the option.”
