ASpringdale cidery took home two prizes at the 2023 Cidercraft awards, according to a news release.

Black Apple’s Hibiscus and Dry Me! were both award winners in the sixth annual international competition, which saw more than 400 submissions from around the world.

Hibiscus snagged the highest award with Platinum in the Botanical category and Dry Me!, a new release for 2023, won Judge’s Pick in the Modern-Dry category.

“We are still a young cidery, and we are experimenting with novel, clean ways of making cider,” said Leo Orpin, co-founder of Black Apple. “It’s always so gratifying to see appreciation for our commitment to clean cider with no added preservatives or sulfites. We’ve tried to do something unique at Black Apple, [and] it’s been a joy to see it so welcomed here in Arkansas and appreciated around the country.”

Black Apple opened in downtown Springdale in July 2015 as the state’s only cidery. It manufactures and serves over 14 varieties of hard cider in a historic building and taproom on Emma Avenue, the release states.

Airship at the Pumphouse

Airship Coffee opened its fourth Northwest Arkansas location earlier this month, according to a news release.

Airship at the Pumphouse, located on Northwest A Street in Bentonville, integrates the site’s original story as the city’s sole water treatment plant and later use as a childcare center, the release says.

“Pumphouse is unique in that it is a commercial space in the oldest residential area in Bentonville,” Airship Coffee Owner Mark Bray said. “We’ve had overwhelming support from the neighborhood, and we have some special surprises to share the legacy of the location.”

Powerhouse powers down

Longtime Fayetteville eatery Powerhouse Seafood & Grill will be going dark for good at the end of the month, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Boasting a large outdoor area and a strong, signature drink, “The Kilowatt,” Powerhouse became a popular local spot to eat, drink and enjoy live music after it opened in the 1990s.

You can still get the Powerhouse experience until the end of the month. Be sure to stop by and raise a glass.

Here’s to you, Powerhouse Seafood & Grill. Thanks for the memories.

Cheers.
