FAYETTEVILLE — Alice Anderson Garber,
92, of Fayetteville, passed away June 16, 2023. She was born to Alva and Tiney Anderson in Picher, Okla. Alice graduated as class valedictorian from Riverton High School, Riverton, Kan. Following high school, she studied at Bethany Nazarene College. She earned a BA in English from Ottowa University and a Masters degree in English literature and minor in Library Science from the University of Central Missouri.
Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished her family, which was reflected in her steadfast love and support.
Education was a lifelong passion. Alice felt the more and better information a person learned, the richer their life would become. While in high school and college, Alice became a library assistant leading to a career as a librarian in the Leeton, Missouri Public school system, the University of Central Missouri and Trails Regional Library System in Warrensburg, Mo.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Tiney Anderson, a sister and four brothers, and her husband of 72 years, Bill Garber. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian Hefley, (Jim), Carol Sue Vierck, (Carl), brothers, Larry Anderson, (Gaye), Danny Anderson, (Kathy), Neal Anderson, (Ruth Elaine), David Anderson, (Sandy), and Darryl Anderson, by a son,
Randy Garber, (Linnette) of Germantown, Maryland, a daughter, Kristen Meyer, (Russ) of Fayetteville and five grandchildren, Cecily Garber, (Ben Hsu), Lynn Cunningham, (Matt), Alison Ragsdale, Will Meyer, (Krystal Tackett), and Brian Meyer; six great-grandchildren, Linnea and Hopper Hsu, James and Leo Cunningham, Levi and Lori Kate Ragsdale. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held June 24, 2023 at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs, Kan.
