SPRINGDALE — Karl Westly Bruce Neumann,

born October 16, 1939, in Grand Forks, N.D., peacefully and painlessly graduated with honors from his current course of Life Friday, September 29, 2023, in his own bed, on his beloved farm east of Springdale, Ark., in the company of his loving daughter.

Karl was preceded in death by his loving parents, Arthur and Luciel (Mayer) Neumann of Niagara, N.D.; his (force-of-nature) sister Sallie (Neumann) Henthorne of Denver, Colo.; his (favorite uncle of daughter) brother, Arthur Jr.; and his cherished sister-in-law Neoma (Jorgensen) Neumann of Niagara, N.D.; and his nephew, Scott Helling of Niagara, N.D.; as well as his best two dogs ever, Rusty of Niagara, N.D., and Nanny of Springdale, Ark.

Karl is survived by his daughter, Gretchen Neumann, of the home; his grandson, Austin H.C. Wise of Fayetteville, Ark.; his loving nieces and nephews, Linda Sue Bigley (his “little sister”) of Golden, Colo., Sandy Kyllo (Paul) of Larimore, N.D. (the foundation of our North Dakota family), Randy Neumann (Geri) of Santa Fe, N.M., and Kip Henthorne (Andrea) of Temecula, Calif., and Greg Neumann of Niagara, N.D. (the two orneriest ones of all); his former wife, long-term friend and chosen mother of his daughter, Martha Anderson of Farmington, Ark.; as well as many beautiful and accomplished grand and great-grand-nieces and -nephews.

Karl was an expert snow trapper and hunter, beekeeper, wine/beer crafter, master farmer/gardener, jam maker, dog/wolf breeder and U.S. Postal Clerk Extraordinaire, including many other life experiences he mastered, such as riding range on horseback in Wyoming in his youth.

He was a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, old-school lab technician for Fayetteville Diagnostic Clinic in the 1970s, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2004.

There will be no local service for Karl at this time. He will be cherished and protected till summer 2024, when he will be placed in the family cemetery in Niagara, N.D., alongside all the people he has loved and lost previously, where he will, finally, be home, and where he has always belonged.

Daughter Gretchen gives a special shout-out to Karl’s wonderful past coworkers: Outstanding canoe buddies James Hudler and Roy White, and his special work ladies, Carol Hudson, Marian Stahl, and Dorothy Salley.

In lieu of spending your money on flowers or donations, Karl asks that you take your cash out of your pocket, fold it over, and place it back in your pocket to “double your money”…and you are welcome for the sound advice….Ha!

Karl will be so very, very missed by all who knew and, therefore, loved him.
