GENTRY — Delbert “Pokey” Nathan Payne

was born March 19, 1944, and passed away suddenly October 14, 2023, while camping with the Goldwing Club. Born in Gravette, Ark., to John Payne and Leota O’Neil Payne.

Survived by his life partner, Jo Jackson, of the home in Gentry; his sons, John and Kenneth Payne; Jo’s daughter, Sheila Edmonson; his brothers, Bill (Clara) Payne and Donald (Nancy) Payne; sisters, Sue Rice and Snooky (Lanny) Garrett; grandchild­ren, Kenya Payne, Terra Compton, Cody (Hayley) Payne, and Clariss Payne; great-grandchild­ren, Savanna Schade, Benjamin Payne, and Kai Stride; and many extended family members.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, David, and Richard Payne; sisters, Nelma Tate and Oca Buckner; infant brothers, John, Gary, and Dennis Joe; his daughter, Teresa Payne; and mother of his children, Joyce Peterson.

Delbert lived in Kansas City, Mo., for 17 years and owned and operated his own repair business. Upon moving back to Benton County, he worked for several places before retiring from Walmart after 20 years.

Delbert enjoyed camping, riding his motorcycle and fishing with his family and friends. He graduated from Gravette High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guards.

Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2023, at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th Street, Rogers. Visitation will follow the service till 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributi­ons to the Parkinson Associatio­n or the American Diabetes Associatio­n.
