FAYETTEVILLE — Elizabeth “Liz” T. Howick
passed away October 3, 2023. Born October 13, 1930 to Donald and Mylrea Tripp of Belvidere, Illinois.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lester C. Howick and now survived by her brother, Robert S. Tripp and his wife Cynthia Hubbard of Washington state.
Liz’s great love of music and her extended family includes the many folks around Northwest Arkansas with whom she shared that passion. Blessed with true perfect pitch and a desire to help others, Liz used her significant talent to teach voice to students of all ages throughout the area. Sometimes referred to as the “soprano about town”, Liz was generous in adding her voice to numerous regional choruses and productions, such as Ozark Stageworks, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Christian Scientist chorus, Schola Cantorem and, in later years, the Butterfield Trail Village chorus and solo musical performance programs.
Liz loved opera and earned her Masters in voice and opera under Dr. Max Worthley at the University of Arkansas. As one of her friend’s from the musical community put it “Liz was an extremely accomplished classical singer. But she was not afraid of any kind of music. From opera to pop, she could sing it all.” This was supported by one of her voice students - “Liz introduced me to opera and I introduced her to country and Pat Benitar.”
The Northwest Arkansas musical community has lost a great teacher and mentor to many people of all ages. They will no doubt carry on her passion.
A private service is planned for later. Donations may be made to the Lester C. Howick Animal Shelter. 801 W. Clydesdale Dr., Fayetteville, Ark. 72701. To sign the online guestbook, please visit www.bernafuneralhomes. com.
