ROGERS — Richard “Dick” Leo Crane,

-

87, of Rogers, Ark., died peacefully at home on October 24th, 2023. Richard was born on February 19th, 1936, in Oswego, Kansas, to Clarence and Pauline Crane. He was the third of six children amidst the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. He helped his father with cabinetry and woodworking, cultivating a work ethic that he would generously pass down to his children and grandchildren.

After attending Swink, Colo., High School, where he was a track and football star, he joined the Army, where he served as a sergeant. In 1961, he married his wife Judy (Hawkins) and welcomed their daughter, Cynthia Ann, later that year. In 1962, along came Richard Scot, and in 1966, Sandra Sue. They are admittedly products of The World’s Greatest Dad.

A natural leader with an ability to make everyone around him feel like they mattered, Richard earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and employees in a career of production and operation management. He retired early in 2001 from Elkhart Products Corporation in Fayetteville, Ark.

In his retirement, Richard would spend his time building cherished furniture and items for his family, traveling to every event in which his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating, reading the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette from front to back, and provide the most insightful analysis on the Razorback Basketball and Football teams. He also enjoyed walks with his wife and reading Westerns. He was the embodiment of a good man.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Glendoris Crane Miller and Jeanie Crane Koehler; his brothers, Robert Crane and Lowell Crane; and his beloved daughter, Cindy.

He is survived by his wife Judy, of Rogers, Ark.; his sister, Wynona Hawkins of Clovis, N.M.; his son, Richard, of Gravette, Ark.; and daughter, Sandy Schleich and her husband Robert of Greeley, Colo.; his grandchildren, Josh (Tabby) and Justin (Peyton) Crane, Cassie (Henry) Honchell, Abbie (Ryan) Rose, Ashley (James) Baumgardner, and Eli Rose; his great-grandchildren, Paisley and Easton Crane, Tanner and Stevie Rose, and Preston, Jed, Fischer, and soon-to-be, Caroline Rose Baumgardner; and a legacy of goodness and hard work that will be passed on for generations.

A private service will be held where burgers and pork steaks will be grilled, celebrating the preeminent patriarch of the grill.
