Schools plan public events for Christmas season
FORT SMITH — With the Christmas season fast approaching, residents will be able to enjoy a wide variety of festive activities thanks to their local schools.
Shari Cooper, director of communications for the Fort Smith School District, provided a list of holiday-related public events in which Fort Smith students will be involved. Rachel Putman, director of communications for the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, assembled a similar list of celebrations the university has scheduled.
The School District events include:
• Ballman Elementary School — Second- and third-graders present “The Nutcracker Suite” at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14.
• Barling Elementary School — Christmas musical at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11.
• Bonneville Elementary School — Christmas card ceremony at 6 p.m. Dec. 5.
• Cook Elementary School — Winter program at 6 p.m. Thursday; Selfies with Santa at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14.
• Darby Middle School — Band and orchestra Christmas concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday; beginners orchestra concert at 6 p.m. Dec. 7. • Fairview Elementary
School — Fairview students performing as part of the UAFS Hansel & Gretel performance at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 and 7; Fairview Choir performing at Creekmore Park under holiday lights at 6 p.m. Dec. 11; Fairview Choir caroling field trip at 8:20 a.m. Dec. 12.
• Howard Elementary School — Holiday musical presented by third grade classes at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14.
• Woods Elementary School — Program at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7.
• Morrison Elementary School — Winter Concert at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7.
• Northside High School — Northside band Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 5; students participating in the Fort Smith Christmas Parade at 3 p.m. Dec. 9.
• Park Elementary School — Third grade performance at 6 p.m. Dec. 7.
• Ramsey Middle School — Band at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1; orchestra at 6 p.m. Dec. 8; choir at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
• Orr Elementary School — Holiday float parade and Cocoa with Santa at 8:20 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, Dec. 15.
• Southside High School — Seasonal Celebration presented by the Southside High School Choir at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 p.m. Dec. 2.
•Tilles Elementary School — Winter music program at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14. Putman said the UAFS Department of Music and Theatre will present a seasonal concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Drennen-Scott Historic Site in Van Buren — which the university owns — will also host a free Victorian Christmas open house beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1.
UAFS also held a charitable “Toy Toss” event Tuesday.
