After the Air Force, Jack and Connie returned to Oklaho- ma and enrolled in college at North Eastern University in Tahlequah, Okla. Connie earned an undergraduate degree in elementary education, and master’s degree in Math and Library Science. Education was her career and her passion.

She taught 1 year in Joplin, Mo., before returning home to teach in the Fort Smith School District. She began that career at Darby Jr. High in 1961 and finished it at Chaffin Jr. High in 1992. Connie was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Muldrow, Okla. She served the church for most of her adult life. Connie sang in the choir until her health prevented her from continuing. She also served in the nursery, at bible school, and as a cook at church camps. When needed, she along with Jack and Pat and Doris ‘Bryan, served as stand-in activity and youth directors. Connie was also responsible for making sure the memorial for Jack was perfect by adding to the donations that were collected.
