Small restaurants and businesses are among the hardest to keep afloat — especially in today’s economic climate. That makes what Prestonrose Farm and Brewing is doing all the more impressive.

Earlier this month, Prestonrose Farm and Brewing Co. opened two new ventures in Clarksville, according to a news release. Both new businesses are located at 107 W. Main St.

First, The Mercantile is a general store, coffee shop, bagel bakery, ice cream shop and deli all rolled into one, and all while using Arkansas and local artisan coffee roasters, the release states.

The store also carries Little Rock’s Loblolly ice cream, regional artisan cheese, local and regional meats and several dry goods.

Mark me down for that sweet, delicious ice cream!

The Mercantile is currently open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, the release says there are plans to extend these hours to weekends in the spring.

The second new business announced in the release is Prestonrose Towne Bistro.

The restaurant will serve elevated “Farm to Table Comfort Fusion” in a beautiful, casual setting. Its menu will feature dishes inspired by the many food cultures revered by the chef and owner Liz Preston, according to the release.

The bistro is open Thursday through Monday from 5 to 11 p.m., and reservations are required.

“These two businesses were conceptualized in parallel and are designed to close food waste loops, generate revenue for more small businesses, and offer farmers the opportunity to have their produce showcased and used locally,” the release says.

Butter-Scotch Bakery & Bar

A new bakery and bar is set to bring an interesting concept to Bentonville.

Butter-Scotch Bakery & Bar states on their website that the business is primed for a soft opening on Valentine’s Day at 104 E. Central Ave. in the heart of downtown.

In the upstairs space, the business will have a bar that focuses on craft cocktails. And downstairs, they will have two storefronts that will offer fresh pastries and cake, according to a Facebook post.

“You can expect to have coffee and tea with delicious French pastries, cocktails inspired by desserts, and desserts inspired by cocktails,” the bakery’s website says. “We aim to also provide Northwest Arkansas with elegant cakes, handmade with fresh ingredients.”

Kin Zabb

A new Thai and sushi spot opened in Springdale last month.

Kin Zabb, located at 503 Holcomb St., opened Dec. 19, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.

The restaurant serves authentic Thai food and sushi, all food being made fresh for each order, their website says.

Kin Zabb is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
