Luther Chambers age 83, of Springdale passed from this life with Karen, his wife of 60 years, at his side.

Robert was born July 19, 1940, in Ada, Okla., to Harriett and Frank Chambers. He was the oldest of four children.

The family later moved to Fayettevil­le where Robert graduated from Fayettevil­le High School in 1958. During his school years, Robert spent the summer months with his beloved aunt and uncle at the family farm in Colgate, Okla. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and during that time served on the USS Kitty Hawk supercarri­er. Upon returning from serving his country Robert married Karen Russell of Fayettevil­le and moved to Mesquite, Texas where their daughters were born.

His career took him to Dallas and then back to Springdale. Upon returning to NWA in the early 70’s, Robert went to work as the manager of the Noland Company and ultimately completed his career at J and B Supply.

Throughout his life Robert was a relentless servant for any cause or individual. As a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, he dedicated his time to Habitat for Humanity and the Bread of Life, serving both as a devoted volunteer and board member for the Bread of Life.

Robert loved to fish, hunt, garden and spend time with his dogs. When he wasn’t outside, you could find him in his workshop. He was a passionate and talented craftsman who loved to work with stained glass and wood. He leaves behind a collection of his beautiful work. He also treasured his time with his granddaugh­ter Katherine playing Mexican Dominos and enjoyingot­her favorite pastime activities.

Robert is survived by his wife, Karen; two daughters, Kim Eddins and her husband David and Robin Chambers; one granddaugh­ter, Katherine Eddins; and two brothers, Bruce Chambers and his wife Eva, and Frank Chambers, III and his wife Kathy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Trudy Sickle.

A celebratio­n of life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 at First United Methodist Church in Springdale. A private graveside service with United States U.S. Navy Honors will be held Friday at Fayettevil­le National Cemetery.
