Springdale pulls away from Rogers

6A-WEST BOYS SPRINGDALE 63, ROGERS 55

ROGERS — Springdale put four players in double figures and held off Rogers 63-55 in 6A-West Conference boys’ basketball Tuesday night at Mountie Arena.

The Bulldogs led nearly the entire way, led by Isaiah Sealy’s game-high 20 points. But Rogers (13-14, 3-10 6A-West) made a couple of charges. A three-pointer by Dylan Laughton brought the Mounties within 47-42 with about five minutes left. But Springdale (16-10, 9-4) scored seven in a row including a pair of Isaiah Sealy dunks off turnovers to regain control.

Springdale Coach Jeremy Price said junior Holden Plant did a good job subbing for regular starter Jarvis Palmer, who was out with the flu. Plant finished with 12, one of four Bulldogs in double figures.

“Holden stepped in and did a good job filling in for him,” Price said. “There’s still some plays we’ll look back on on film. Took a couple plays off, a couple offensive rebounds. Just some little things we’ve got to tighten up moving into the last three games and moving into the state tournament.”

Rogers assistant coach Aaron Curtis said the Mounties, who have lost five straight, have struggled to get over the hump at times this season.

“We got over it for a certain point of the season. Maybe right after Christmas, we were at a really good place,” Curtis said.”Then went back and haven’t been able to get back over it. We’ll get there at the very top to where it’s a breaking point and we’ll fall two or three steps backward.

“Tonight was just a matter of execution. We didn’t shoot the ball well. We didn’t execute really on either end either defensively or offensively.

Cy Bates added 15 points, including 7 of 7 free throws, for Springdale, while Steven Toston was also in double figures with 11 for Springdale. Aidan Chronister led Rogers with 15, while Rex Krout and Braxton Lindsey chipped in 13 points apiece. Nathaniel Jones added 11.

Springdale got off to a 10-2 lead to start and led by as many as 11 in the first half. But the Bulldogs settled for a 30-24 halftime advantage.
