Two Sides Of Dickson Street

Riki & Modeling make dark waves, Barber sells out George’s

- Compiled by MONICA HOOPER

Synths on one side, twangy guitars on the other — just another week on Dickson Street. On March 4, L.A-based “new romantic icon” Riki will perform at Smoke and Barrel Tavern with local synth-wave trio Modeling for an evening of bone-vibrating dark wave juxtaposed with sounds inspired by 1980s pop music.

The show is presented by local concert promoters On The Map. Coming up are Squirrel Flower on March 8 at Pearl’s Books; Slaughter Beach, Dog and Erin Rae on April 11; METZ, Gouge Away and Peach Blush on April 25; and Water from Your Eyes and Friko May 7 at George’s Majestic Lounge. Sweeping Promises performs April 26 at Smoke and Barrel. Keep up with these independent shows at linktr.ee/onthemapshows.

On the other side of Dickson Street, southern Missouri-based troubadour Sam Barber performs on March 8 at George’s Majestic Lounge. The RIAA goldcertified singer-songwriter has more than 4.3 million total monthly Spotify listeners and earned the Rookie of the Month title on Billboard. Following the release of his debut EP “Million Eyes,” he has been on the road nearly non-stop as special guest of Ed Sheeran and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at London.

The sold-out show starts at 8 p.m. with Sam Stone. Join the waitlist at georgesmajesticlounge.com.
