Sew much fun

-

Kay Combs (above photo) of Fort Smith, a member of Sassy Sewers, a group of friends who have been meeting monthly to work on sewing projects for more than 20 years, operates a 1951 Singer sewing machine Tuesday at the Fort Smith Public Library Dallas Branch in Fort Smith. The group consists of 17 members and meets for several hours at the library on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding June, July and August. For April, Combs and fellow members Rita Helms, Shirley Hamilton, Lynn Meeks and Cynthia Wilson created small heart-shaped pillows with positive messages written on them to hang somewhere out in public for strangers to find and take home. Discoverers of the pillows are encouraged to visit ifaqh. com and tell the story of how they found their sewn heart. (Left photo, from left) Combs, Helms, Hamilton and Meeks discuss a surplus of materials brought by Combs. Visit rivervalleydemocratgazette.com/photo for today’s photo gallery.
