WITTER — Dale Lee Maggard,
85, of Witter, passed to be with our Lord on April 9, 2024, in Springdale. He was born December 27, 1938, in Venus, to Andy and Ollie Pruitt Maggard. Dale married Donna Sue Pennington on Saturday, May 2, 1959, at Wesley, Ark., and together they were parents to three children. At a young age, Dale developed both a love and a respect for the value of hard work. He began by working in a sawmill that his father owned and, while still in his teenage years, traveled across the country wherever he was needed, including Texas to pick cotton and Washington to pick apples. Dale served in a variety of industries over the course of his life, employed for companies including Wilson Foods, Cessna, Daisy, H.K. Porter, and Shiloh Tank. He also served on the board for the Venus Cemetery.
Dale enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, watching football with Donna, and visiting with friends and family. He treasured the memories of the numerous weekends at Beaver Lake fishing and water skiing with his children and Donna. Dale took many opportunities to explore the country he loved, visiting incredible places such as Yellowstone and Washington, DC, and journeying as far as Hawaii and Alaska. Nevertheless, he never lost his appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation as viewed from the front porch of he and Donna’s Venus Mountain home with his trusty companion, Cocoa.
Dale joyfully attended the Aurora Church of Christ. He deeply loved and appreciated his church family. Dale was a man of few words, but he consistently demonstrated his love for those around him through his actions. His family will always cherish how he served as an unfailing source of support throughout Donna’s three-year battle with cancer.
Dale is survived by his sister, Wanda “Jeanie” Easley; one son, Jeff Maggard of Tontitown; and two daughters, Sherry Turpin of Springdale and Renae Harris of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Sue Pennington; his parents; his brothers Melvin, Dorther, Jesse “Everett”, and Norman “Jack”; and his sisters Ruby Myers, Velma Porter, Loveda Smith, Loeda Hudson, and Jessie Allred.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2024, at Brashears Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, at Venus Cemetery with Chance Bryant officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Callahan, Connor Harris, Garrett Taylor, Kent Myers, Shane Knaust, and Bobby Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dale’s name may be made to the Paws and Claws Pet Shelter, P.O. Box 364, 2075 Madison 6555, Huntsville, Ark. 72740. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
