Opera in the Ozarks comes to Concordia Retirement

- BY COLLEEN MARIE THOMPSON & TRACIE IRVINE

Concordia Retirement Community has cultivated a reputation for creating unforgettable experiences, particularly through our commitment to showcasing remarkable performers during our weekly happy hours and special gatherings. At 3 p.m. Friday, May 10, we extend a rare invitation for you to immerse yourself in the captivating world of opera and experience its enchanting melodies, right here in Bella Vista. Hailing from the picturesque town of Eureka Springs, the talented artists of Opera in the Ozarks will grace our community with their captivating voices and magnetic performances. Prepare to be transported as their enchanting melodies fill the air, weaving tales of passion and beauty right here at Concordia; and as the final notes fade, we invite you to join us for a grand reception in the lounge, where drinks and other delectable treats await.

Now, you might find yourself hesitant at the prospect of attending an opera, perhaps assuming it’s not quite your cup of tea. Allow me to dispel any doubts you may have. Rather than presenting a full-scale production, these talented artists will delight you with a curated selection of their most cherished pieces from their upcoming repertoire. Among these gems is the enchanting “Little Red’s Most Unusual Day,” a whimsical adaptation of the beloved children’s tale “Little Red Riding Hood,” specially crafted to captivate audiences of all ages.

Recalling their stellar performance last year at Concordia, we can’t help but reflect on the sheer joy and excitement that filled the lounge. From whimsical tunes to poignant ballads, Opera in the Ozarks captivated hearts and minds, leaving an indelible impression on all who attended. Indeed, many of us were so enraptured by their talent that we eagerly journeyed to Eureka Springs to experience a full-scale production, complete with lavish costumes and professional stage sets.

Situated amidst the serene beauty of the Ozark Mountains, Opera in the Ozarks stands as a testament to artistic excellence and dedication. What began as a modest summer camp in 1950 has blossomed into a prestigious music school, attracting aspiring opera singers from across the globe. Countless alumni, including luminaries, such as Latonia Moore and Leona Mitchell, have graced international stages around the world, including Vienna, Paris and Rio de Janeiro – a testament to the program’s unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and fostering artistic growth.

Yet, Opera in the Ozarks is more than just a training ground for future opera stars. It is a beacon of community engagement, dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of the region through outreach events and educational initiatives. By sharing their passion for opera with audiences of all ages, participants leave an indelible mark on the communities they touch, inspiring a newfound appreciation for the art form.

As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming season, spanning from June 21 through July 19, I implore you to seize this rare opportunity to experience Opera in the Ozarks firsthand. Admission to Friday’s performance is complimentary, affording you the chance to not only revel in the unparalleled artistry of these gifted performers, but also to engage with them personally during the postperformance reception.

Concordia Retirement Community eagerly anticipates your presence at 1 Concordia Drive in Bella Vista. Let us embrace the magic of opera and celebrate the transformative power of music. We encourage you to join us this Friday as we embark on a journey of melody, passion and unparalleled artistry.
