Springdale man accused of raping a girl
BENTONVILLE — A Springdale man was being held Monday on $750,000 bond after his arrest in connection with sexually abusing a child.
Edim Munoz, 31, was arrested in connection with seven counts of rape, five counts of sexual assault and sexually grooming a child. Prosecutors have not yet filed any formal charges against him.
Munoz was arrested Thursday after a woman reported the sexual abuse complaints to Springdale police, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The woman reported Munoz was in a locked bathroom with the girl, who later reported Munoz had inappropriately touched her, according to the affidavit.
The woman showed police text messages from Munoz admitting to sexually abusing the girl and he claimed he planned to turn himself in to police, according to the affidavit.
The girl’s age is redacted from the affidavit.
The girl was interviewed at the Children’s Safety Center in Springdale where she reported Munoz had sexually abused her in the restroom and on other occasions; the girl also reported Munoz had shown her pornography on his cellphone, according to the affidavit.
Munoz was interviewed by police and admitted to sexually abusing the girl in the bathroom, the affidavit states.
He also admitted to sexually abusing the girl on several other occasions, according to the affidavit.
Munoz said the abuse started in January, but he denied showing the girl any pornography, the affidavit states.
Munoz’s arraignment is set for 8 a.m. June 17 in Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green’s courtroom.
