Will you be attending the ANA’s World Fair of Money in August? If so, what are you looking forward to seeing the most?

Currently I plan on going; however, I may only be staying one night instead of the normal two, due to cost.

I am planning on attempting to complete my Indian Head cent, Mercury dime and Morgan “CC” silver dollar collections. Steve Cheaney Address Withheld

Yes, I will be attending the ANA World’s Fair of Money. I will be working at table-holder registration, judging collector exhibits and receiving the Glenn Smedley Award, apparently.

Bluntly, no. This retort is not a criticism or complaint about the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and its beloved World’s Fair of Money, which I am a patron. Rather, I do not have the mobility to walk much, and walking the World’s Fair is imperative. Also, airfares are sky-high and my DJIA is low-ball low!

But, if I were present, it would not be the coins or currency or tokens or medals or the United States Mint. No, it would be the people. Remember, my credo is “coins do not collect people; people collect coins.”

Who? Clifford L. Mishler, of course; Robert F. Fritsch; Anthony J. Swiatek, who I have not conversed with face-toface in a decade or more; ANA library staff, seeking input into and with potential research; Kimberly A. Kiick of the ANA; the Numismatic News staff present, who issues these Friday poll questions; and others.

There would meetings: Souvenir Card Collectors Society, International Association of Wooden Money

Collectors, Token and Medals Society, Society of Paper Money Collectors, etc. You get the picture.

Go to the World’s Fair of Money not just for the money. Go and revel in what Bob Fritsch apply named “the coin community.”

I’m looking forward to Michael Corley’s “Money Talk” on Chinese Pandas and Colin Gullberg’s talk on chopmark coins.
