PAN Show Packed with Events

The Pennsylvan­ia Associatio­n of Numismatis­ts (PAN) Fall Coin Show and Convention will be held Oct. 20-22 at the Monroevill­e, Pa., Convention Center. Show admission is free and open to the public.

This year, the associatio­n will add George Washington (Curt Radabaugh) to its PAN Living American History Program. Abraham Lincoln ( Dennis Boggs), Benjamin Franklin ( Patrick McBride) and General William Sherman (Kris Gunvalsen) will all be present at the show on Friday and Saturday. They will talk about their roles in American History and their impact on our nation’s coinage and currency. Attendees will have the opportunit­y to meet the reenactors and take photos

The show will again host a Civil War Showcase area operated by authors Rink Lank and Becky Rush. They will conduct talks and display the coinage, currency and gold bullion that was a vital part of Civil War history.

The PAN Friday Lecture Series has a full line-up of experts that include Carl Waltz Jr., Dr. Lawrence C. Korchnak, Ron Sirna, Michael Drabick and John Frost. The full schedule with topics, dates and times is posted on the PAN website at www.PANcoins.org

The Competitiv­e Collector Exhibit Area will feature many of the firstplace exhibits from the recent American Numismatic Associatio­n’s World’s Fair of Money. Exhibit Chairman Tom Corey reports that there will be close to 100 cases of quality numismatic material.

U. S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti has created two bas- relief plaster sculptures that will be the highlight of the PAN Benefit Auction Oct. 20. The first sculpture is a likeness of President Theodore Roosevelt on Horseback. The piece is hand-signed by Mr. Mercanti. The second sculpture is a likeness of the first United States Mint Building, also hand-signed.

The PAN Banquet will be held at the LeMont Restaurant. Tickets and details can be found on the PAN website or by calling PAN President Tom Uram at (412) 418-0783. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the PAN Living American History Program. ◆
