Do you plan on buying the 2023 uncirculated Morgan and Peace dollars when they become available?

-

I will be buying only those options which match products 100 years old. That means no proofs, no gimmick finishes, and yes, no Morgan dollars. For 2023, that means one option only – uncirculated Peace dollar. End of story. The abusive proliferation of gimmicky U.S. Mint products needs to stop.

V. Kurt Bellman

Arab, Ala.

Although I am a Peace dollar collector, I will not buy any of the newly issued ones. I bought the 2021 just because of the anniversary. There is no need to produce these or the Morgans. It takes the allure away from the original series.

Darren Bulinda

Novi, Mich.

Yes, I will purchase them. Not for investment purposes but for their beauty.

John McMann Warrenton, Va. I will be purchasing the five different options that are coming. I signed up early January on the subscription option. However, I only bought one of each item hoping that others will be able to obtain the coin for their collection. When I only chose one coin per option, the max limit was three. Since then the overall numbers have gone way up, and so did the new limit. I chose to keep my choice the same. Maybe if other collectors would do so also, more people would be happy.

James Faulkerson Hillsboro, Mo. No! How much more can the U.S. Mint squeeze out of the everyday collector? It sickens me the way the coins are priced. We won’t be fooled again. Oh, no!

Coach Jennings Petersburg, Mich. Probably not. I have signed up for subscriptions for all of them. However, due to the huge numbers the Mint has committed to, they will be a poor investment versus silver prices. Think I will cancel my subscriptions. If I decide I want them, I’ll buy them on the secondary market after prices have settled down.

Gary North Carolina Heck, I joined the auto enrollment program the day it came out. I may not be able to afford scare date [silver dollars], but I’m looking at something for my grandsons.

Mike White Lake Dallas, Texas Absolutely, I subscribed and received confirmation on my order from the U.S. Mint on Aug. 3, 2022. Excited and waiting for their release. They make perfect examples of these

modern issues that I pass around during my Youth Presentations on the Morgan/ Peace dollars at my local coin club. Lorne Lavertu Herndon, Va. No. Personally I feel they are overpriced. The Mint should have made a few- thousand more of them.

No, I don’t. Not sure if these are legal tender for circulation and trade. I collect the original circulating issues of Morgan and Peace dollars and feel theses dollars are not a tribute but take away from the beauty and value of the originals. Patricia Correia Abilene, Texas

No, not for me. I’d rather spend whatever they’re going to sell for on 100-plus year old type coins.

Joe G. Carlsbad, Calif.

I plan on buying them for my collection as I have been collecting them for many years, so why stop now. I am thrilled. Dominic Cantore

Chicago, Ill.

I do plan on purchasing the 2023 Morgan and Peace dollars. I already have them as part of my subscriptions from the Mint and will have them graded and encapsulated. I have been collecting for 50 years and find these two dollars some of the most beautiful and historic coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint. This is really a great opportunity to have these coins in great uncirculated condition as well as being as close as possible to the originals.

Denny Watson St. Charles, Missouri I have no intention to buy the commemorative Morgan and Peace dollars. I don’t normally buy commemoratives in the first place unless they have special meaning to me. There has been a proliferation in commemorative coinage worse than the abuses of the classic commemoratives to the extent that commemorative coins are being issued for less- than-historic reasons. When we get to the point that we’re issuing commemoratives to commemorate coins, the program has gone too far! These coins were first issued two years ago to commemorate the centennial of the last Morgan and first Peace dollars, but now they’re trying to make them annual issues. We have too many commemoratives already. We don’t need more so the U.S. Mint can further gouge the collector with its overpriced products.

Louis Iudiciani Cumberland, R.I.

Yes, I will buy a few of each, although with the increased proof and unc. mintages, I doubt they will increase much above offering value. However, there are few coins prettier than the Morgan dollar, so I look forward to owning some.

Mike G. Hernando, Miss. No, I spent several hours in 2021 trying to get a confirmed sale of the Morgan dollars on the Mint website and I was unsuccessful. Then, initially, I had subscribed to all the 2023 Morgan dollar products, but when the Mint devalued the Morgans by raising mintages, I cancelled all my subscriptions and will not be buying, owning or trading for these items in the future.

I am not buying the 2023 Morgan and Peace dollars. This is just more U.S. Mint market manipulation by creating artificial scarcity. I’m not participating.

Kellie Matthews New Freedom, Pa.

I will buy an example of every new Morgan and Peace dollar. I’m looking forward to a yearly collectible like the [American silver Eagle]. I buy every silver dollar the Mint puts out.

Donald New Mexico I do not plan to buy any of the uncirculated Morgan and Peace dollars when they become available. I am interested in the original Morgan dollar series because of the issues the mints had producing them and the many different varieties available. A modern-minted silver dollar would be unlikely to have many production issues creating unintentional varieties.

Gary Becker Endicott, N.Y. Absolutely. The Morgan is a popular favorite in the world of numismatics. Wish the Mint wouldn’t have skipped 2022.
