Man dies in fatal collision on Monday

On Monday, April 18, at approximately 1:35 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Buffalo Shoals Road near Little Mountain Road.

A 2001 Mack logging truck was traveling south on Buffalo Shoals Road, ran off the road to the right, and collided with several vehicles in the parking lot of D & R Automotive & Front-End Service. The truck then overturned and lost the load of logs. The driver, Danny Charles Lail, 68, of Catawba, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was not restrained by a seatbelt. There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the collision.

Buffalo Shoals Road was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.
