Mayson Lail threw a shutout to lead the St. Stephens
Lady Indians varsity softball team past Hickory 10-0 on Tuesday.
The Lady Indians secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Mia Sexton, Brylyn McFarland, and Sexton, groundouts by Kayla Berry and Kaela Briggs, and a home run by Anicka McFarland.
St. Stephens tallied eight runs in the sixth inning.
The Lady Indians’ batters contributing to the big inning included Sexton, Berry, Briggs, McFarland, McFarland, and Sexton, all driving in runs in the inning.
One bright spot for Hickory was a single by Abby Puett in the fourth inning.
Lail led St. Stephens to victory on the rubber.
The righthander surrendered zero runs on three hits over six innings, striking out 11 and walking zero.
Mackenzie Hammons took the loss for Hickory.
Hammons allowed 15 hits and ten runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.
The Lady Indians launched one home run on the day. McFarland went deep in the sixth inning.
St. Stephens tallied 15 hits. Lail, Sexton, Lacey Scott, and Chloe Henline each managed multiple hits.
Lail led St. Stephens with four hits in four at bats.
The Lady Indians didn’t commit a single error in the field. McFarland had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.
