Wingate wins regular season title; The South Atlantic Conference announces seeds for 2022 SAC Baseball Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Wingate Bulldogs captured the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship, finishing the regular season with a record of 21-2 in conference. With the title, Wingate has earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s South Atlantic Conference Baseball Championship.

Newberry earned the No. 2 seed with a 19-5 record in SAC play. Queens received the No. 3 seed with a 17-7 record in conference, and Lenoir-Rhyne picked up the No. 4 seed with a SAC record of 17-7, as well. The Royals won the tiebreaker with the Bears based on a 1-2 record versus Catawba. The two teams did not play each other during the regular season, and Catawba is the highest seeded common opponent. Queens was 1-2 versus Catawba, while Lenoir-Rhyne was 0-3.

Catawba picked up the No. 5 seed after a 16-8 season in conference, followed by Lincoln Memorial with a record of 15-8 in SAC play at No. 6.

Rounding out the field of eight for the baseball championship are CarsonNewman at the No. 7 seed with a 12-11 record in conference, and Mars Hill at the No. 8 seed with a 9-14 record.

The 2022 SAC Baseball Championship will be played at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tenn., and will get underway on Thursday, April 28. Thursday’s games will be single elimination, while the double-elimination portion of the Championship will be played Friday, April 29-Monday, May 2. Below is the Championship schedule.
