CV Young Life holds their 7th annual “glow run” fundraiser in memory of long-time area director

- BY KATE WIMBERLY

Young Life ministry began in 1941 with the purpose of introducing middle school, high school, and college students in all 50 of the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. They work to accomplish this by utilizing “time, patience, trust, and consistency” to meet kids where they are, build relationships with them, and provide fun, adventurous, life-changing, and skill-building experiences. They also invite area kids, teens, and young adults to “personally respond to the Good News and walk in friendship with them, regardless of their response,” according to their website.

Wynn Pobletts, CV Young Life area director since last August, shared her story of becoming involved. Pobletts grew up in Maryland, attended Lenoir Rhyne University, and while achieving her Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Chemistry, Debbie Hobart, previous area director for 15 years, introduced her to the ministry of Young Life. Through the next couple of years, Pobletts increased her involvement in the ministry and became close to Hobart.

After moving back to Maryland for a job related to her degree, Pobletts quickly realized the career she worked for was not the right fit.

“I called Debbie to ask advice and let her know I wanted to work for Young Life, and she said, ‘I have a spot for you,’” shared Pobletts.

Pobletts came back, and was a Staff Associate, where she divided her time between working for Young Life and the YMCA. In January of this year, after a fiveyear battle with pancreatic cancer, Hobart passed away. Pobletts then carried the mantle, stepping into the Area Director role of her mentor who made such an

impact in the lives of many.

Their Annual Glow Run was held on Saturday, April 30th at 8pm. They are working on a new name to honor Hobart for both her service in Young Life and to recognize her coming up with the idea for the run.

The donations accrued from the glow run will go towards camp scholarships.

This year, participants will go to Carolina Point and Rockbridge.

CV Young Life is made up of Wynn Pobletts and Bradley Briggs, as well as a notable collection of volunteers and leaders in the community.
