Kiwanis Fundraiser held to help children
The Newton Kiwanis Club recently had a fundraiser to help local school children.
The Port-A-Pit BBQ was held at the Newton Depot on April 15.
Cars started lining up after 6 a.m. waiting for plates of grilled chicken, slaw, and baked beans.
The club had 10 high school students from Bandys and Fred T. Foard help make and distribute plates to eager customers.
At the end of the day, all plates were sold out and the Kiwanis raised $2,535.00.
“We had several people come back for more, but it was all gone,” Newton City Council Member Ed Sain said.
All proceeds will be split between assisting the Kiwanis Terrific Kids Program and for Key Club scholarships.
The Newton Kiwanis have held their fundraiser for 15 years, and plan to continue this tradition next year.
