Graduate achieves 2 rare marks
Bryson Shelton of Catawba is set to achieve not one, but two rare feats. Upon graduation from high school, he will obtain 12 years of perfect school attendance. In addition to this, he has been awarded all 138 merit badges in his path to becoming an Eagle Scout.
First attending Catawba County schools, then Tri City Christian and Southview Christian, Bryson has demonstrated dedication through his entire school career. Being blessed with good health and reliable transportation has certainly helped but the determination to realize a responsibility to be where you need to be has propelled him to achieve his mark of perfect attendance.
That ideal has carried over in his work life as well, never missing a day of scheduled work since he began working at the age of 16.
In addition to perfect attendance, he became the 475th boy scout to achieve all merit badges since the scouting program began. Only 6% of eligible scouts become Eagle Scouts, amounting to just over 2.6 million since the rank began in 1912. Of these Eagle scouts 0.018%. have achieved all available merit badges.
When put into perspective, there are:
600 astronauts in history 4,000 whom have climbed Mount Everest
There are 5,500 Green Berets, 2,500 Navy Seals and 3,200 secret service agents active
Over 260 Pope’s in papal historical records
Every baseball season there is a 4.7% chance of a perfect game being pitched
Bryson plans on attending college for a career in engineering. No doubt that he will deliver this same dedication he has demonstrated through these advancements.
